‘19 Certificate of Excellence

Celebrating our 10 Year Anniversary in 2018 we work mainly in the North East offering estate planning advice tailored to your needs, from the first steps of making a will to utilizing trusts, giving lasting powers of attorney, protecting the family home whilst providing for long term care, business succession planning, funeral plans and other related services. We offer peace of mind from the standard will to complex estates. Writing a will is one of the most important decisions you will make whether you are 18 years old, buying your first house, welcoming your first child, running a business, looking ahead to retirement or had a change in your personal circumstances. Everyone over 18 needs a will, it does not matter how much you are worth. It is so important to have a will so that those you leave behind can easily manage your affairs and know exactly what your wishes are. Lasting Powers of Attorney or LPA's as they are more commonly known appoint someone you have chosen and trust to act for you if you are mentally or physically incapacitated. Without LPA's a government representative and medical professional will make these decisions for you. They will work diligently to make the best decisions for you however they do no know you personally and what your thoughts would be on housing, financial spending, choice of care etc.Not just for the elderly, loss of capacity could be through a car accident, illness or sporting accident so now is the time choose someone you trust. Trusts are becoming more commonly used as our general wealth increases such as value of the home, life assurance policy, savings and pensions. Trusts in lifetime can be a gift of a deposit to your son/daughter to buy a house. Should the relationship fail and the property sold the deposit would revert back to the trust and not divided with partner/spouse. Trusts on death can have many benefits for those receiving the assets and you can provide protection from "predators" when you are no longer there to guide. Funeral plans can be confusing and selecting the correct type of policy or plan can be clearly discussed.

What do you love most about your job?

No two people are the same nor are their will and estate planning requirements. I love meeting people and getting to know their personal story and I can put tools in place to support them through any "bumps in the road" during their lifetime (Lasting Power of Attorney-Protecting the home from Care-Gifting to Children etc). We can then look together at ensuring that they have control over their assets when they die, passing them on to the people that they choose (Wills).

Often there are concerns about young children and a discussion on who to choose as guardians. This can be an emotional subject but with careful consideration the children will be safe and well cared for. No-one will be as good as you as a parent but far better that you choose who cares for your children than the Courts.

Second marriage is quite common through death of a partner or divorce. The modern "blended family" works well but it is often difficult to broach the subject of "if you go first". There are a number of solutions for making sure that your partner is financially comfortable should you die but ensuring that your children receive your assets when your partner dies. Helping couples to chat through the options in the comfort of their own home is so much easier and with the "what if's" being brought up by myself there is no awkwardness.

Elderly parent's can be such a worry and trawling through all of the available information can be so time consuming and frustrating , I really enjoy dispelling all of the myths and helping to form a clear plan of action .

After coffee and a good chat I hope to leave my clients relieved, well informed and able to make the right decisions for their personal needs both in the short and long-term. I am not a sales person and hope to support each client through what is right and relevant for them.

What inspired you to start your own business?

Having worked within a financial services company as a will writer-estate planner I wanted to focus on the client experience. I wished to offer a service that is as individual as each client. Some people need more support through the process than others, more time to make decisions or have complex issues to consider. Taking time and building a trusted relationship is important. Giving instruction for a will is one of the most important things we do during our lifetime and be the process straight forward or complicated I wished to ensure that all of my clients are understand and are happy with the process.

Working for myself allows the flexibility to spend time with clients where required, not restricted by hourly rates or sales targets. Providing a professional supportive service was a key driver to setting up Enigma Wills & Trusts Ltd.

Why should our clients choose you?
