What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
Great use of Light – I’ve placed this in position 1, because photography is essentially all about light.
Great Composition: As you compose, only look at the boldest, broadest and most basic lines and shapes in your image in the most overall and general sort of way. When composing, forget the subject. You are using every item in the image as a compositional element, exactly as you'd arrange pieces of cut-out construction paper to make an interesting composition.
A Clear Subject – Great photographs generally have a very clear idea of what the core subject of the photograph is
Double Punchlines: A single punchline is something simple, like a photo of a train window, and the last one has someone looking out. Big deal. A double punchline is when you have something in the photo reacting to something else in the photo.
Colors need to be in harmony. There are a zillion ways to analyze this, but as a photographer you have it easy. What looks good is good.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
1. What are your priorities for the session?
2. What type of images are you most drawn to? For example, do you prefer more posed shots with everyone smiling and looking at the camera? Candid images? Interactive images?
3. Would you enjoy some images in black and white?
4. How many outfits do you have picked out for your session?
5. What are your must-have photos/videos?
6. Do you have a photography/ video shoot location picked out?
7. Do you have a list of group photos/videos you’d like to take?
8. What is Your Budget, and When Do You Want to Start?
9. How can I reach you?
10. How do you prefer to be contacted? Via e-mail? Text?
