Nice friendly staff and home cooked food is delicious .
Local so never stayed here but family has and couldn’t fault the Hotel apart from the lift being out of order and has been for 3 months so not ideal for disabled people at the moment .

Lovely hotel, I spent one night here on business and could not get over how lovely the room was. It was modern and very nicely decorated and super clean? All the staff were helpful and attentive. The food was also very good. The restaurant and bar area have been lovingly decorated and the whole hotel has a great feel. My only complaint if you can call it that, is that I got woken up at first light by the pigeons!!! Obviously out of the control of the Star!!!!! Well done I will be back again when I am the area? Visited the Star Hotel today for Sunday Lunch in the River Room Restaurant, I was a little hesitant having very happy memories of dining here with my parents some forty or so years ago. It was excellent, we already knew the staff were very friendly and efficient having previously popped in over the last few months for coffee or a drink at the bar. We both had the roast sirloin of beef which was very well presented, served hot with a really good selection of fresh vegetables. Delicious rich gravy served in a gravy boat and horseradish sauce in a nice small ramekin. The menu is very varied offering one to three courses giving you plenty of options. More...

Calling in for a coffee today and, if am honest a "nosey" to see the revamped hotel and we were very impressed. Friendly & helpful staff, our drinks were brought to us at the table. We sat in the lounge with a glorious open fire warming us on a chilly February day. Reviewing the menu for lunch/dinner/high tea all looked very inviting & not overly expensive. Booked in for Sunday Lunch today and was pleasantly surprised by how different the hotel looks. The Nelson bar had a great selection of draught lagers and ales and also a good selection of gins.

Came here twice once was for a lunch with my mother which was lovely and then came again in December with family on a bitterly cold night unfortunately the hotel was really cold in the bar and lounge area we were unable to take our coats off not sure if there was a problem with the heating. Fortunately the restaurant was warmer and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and service. Have booked for Valentines times day so hopefully it will be a lot warmer so we can sit and enjoy a pre dinner drink. Would give the food 5 �. More...
