About

TAI CHI & QIGONG CLASSES
Tai chi can be spelt many different ways: taiji, or t’ai chi, and the full name, taijiquan, or t’ai chi ch’uan can be translated as ‘Supreme Ultimate Fist/Boxing’.

The movements of tai chi are combined into what is known as a ‘Form’, from short beginner Forms to the more advanced Competition Forms.

I have been enjoying learning tai chi and qigong weekly with James for about four years. James is a great teacher with good humour, enormous patience and many ways of helping people memorise movements by using funny analogies. His classes are informal and very welcoming to people who have never been to a tai chi class before but also to people that have a bit more experience. His taster lesson fee is inexpensive and even on the first lesson it will be very unusual if a person will go away not having learnt something. It is not necessary to be super-fit or sporty to do tai chi or the qigong exercises. James encourages participation with self awareness of personal physical capability. More...

I have been attending James Drew's Taiji classes for a number of years at the Abbey community centre. I love the classes for their variety and their attention to detail. We don't just learn to go through the moves of the Taiji form, but we learn also what these moves mean and how we can improve them. Over the years I have found that each move has so many intricate details, that it is impossible to get tired of studying them. James also teaches a variety of health improving Qi Gong forms, including for the digestion, the cardiovascular system, the heart, the liver and the kidneys. They are all fun to do and have the added benefit of improving our health even more. More...
