Q&As

I enjoy helping others and teaching my system of percussion because I see first hand the effect it has on participants.

African Drumming is one of the oldest Spiritual Groundings and method of musical expression there is . The majority of us have enjoyed 'popular music' at some time in our lives and the music we love to listen to has evolved from the West African Percussion coming from the Western area of Africa and more predominantly from the Mali region. Over the last 50 years the Djembe has spread to many other African countries who have also adopted the drum, at least from a commercial aspect.

African drumming is a fantastic was to keep fit and to balance the Right & Left Brain function and relationship - which also increases and improves the co-ordination between the right & left hands.

I was ever-so inspired to start RhythmWorks because of the joy a felt from learning how to express myself and make music and rhythm , coming directly from me.

I had been to many 'Djembe' or 'African Drumming Workshops' and often held by Africans, but there was no authenticity at that time (1992-4) and it was obvious that 'Teacher' and Facilitators were making it up as they went along and were simply teaching their Rhythms.
This served me for a short time, but there was no advancement and it was quite obvious, to me, that I had learned very little after attending Weekly workshops for 6 months.
Shortly after I stopped Drumming because of the fact that I was not learning, I was given the opportunity to visit a Master Drummer from Guinea Conakary who was residing in The Gambia.

Needless-to-say, I learned more in one 6 Hour Day with Master Tomas than I had learned the whole time I had been drumming, previously.

After 3 - 4 weeks of Drumming - I was ready to teach the correct and highly effective rudiments and rhythms of the Djembe.

African Drumming came into my life at a time when I had lost everything I was previous to a near fatal car accident. After the accident, I was left with No memory, I had to have my face re-built, having detached my upper jaw from my face and I also snapped one wrist and required my knee to be reconstructed.
After making a full physical recovery, I went to Africa, due to the death of my mother.

Since those days I have taught thousands of people African Drumming. from 1999 - 2003 I was running 4 Evening Workshops per week + I was teaching junior and secondary school children and in addition, I have provided much Team Building for Corporate Organisations such as Heinz and Vodafone, both of which I taught at Company Functions at large Chateauxs in France.

Clients' of Bark should choose me because I will provide an incredible learning experience and my lessons are always very accommodating - I believe in spreading Kindness and support to others, anyway.
