Norwich, Norfolk, norfolk
Norwich Puppet Theatre is an excellent introduction to the magic of theatre with original shows, activities, workshops and masterclasses for all ages.
Situated inside a converted medieval church, the Theatre is one of only three building-based puppet theatres in England.

I have seen so many great shows at the Norwich Puppet theatre over the years! In particular I've enjoyed the amazing world class visual theatre that has been brought to Norwich by their annual 'Manipulate Festival' (every February, ie. on now!), shows which are more aimed at adults, and which demonstrate the wonderful diversity of expression that can come under the heading of 'puppetry'. I can't recommend the theatre enough and I want to celebrate it's ongoing dedication to the arts of puppetry and visual theatre. Please support it by going to their shows! We mustn't take it for granted. It is a true gem in the cultural life of Norwich. More...

Well, this is a very confusing albeit awesome theatre. For some reason, I went there expecting to see Roy Chubby Brown perform his latest experimental mime piece, "Now That's What I Call Roy Chubby Brown Vol 29: 1980's Party Megamix. "But when Roy came on stage, he appeared to be only one foot tall, made of felt, wolf like in shape, essentially two dimensional, and rather prone to eating people's Grandmothers then indulging in a spot of #crossdressing.Exactly how do they identify?I couldn't decide if he had turned hyper #liberal or was the most appalling human being who ever lived.Anyhow, a young female chav in a bright red hoody sorted #RoyChubbyBrown right out! Stones were involved. Just sayin...Then she broke into a crib owned by three righteous #bears and started getting all judgemental about how hot their porridge was and how large their chairs were. Then she only went and tucked herself into one of their beds! The bear-faced cheek! Un-bear-able!(I ain't being funny, but she really needs to check her #privilege.)Anyhow, it's a great little theatre. (I can't wait till Jim Davidson rocks up to perform his experimental art piece, "Now That's What I Call #Oldskool: Featuring Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5, and Melle Mel themselves!") More...

Took the kids to watch a performance by local music school, 'Jennifer Grace Music Academy'. It's not very big but well laid out, making good use of the space. Really good performance anyway, aided by the acoustics of the building. Nice, reasonably priced food and drink and clean facilities. My only very minor con about the place is the difficulty parking on a Saturday night. Otherwise, perfect family evening out. More...

I only went to see inside the building because it was formerly a Church where my ancestors were married. I found Ian from the office extremely helpful.

Great venue to hold a private party, everyone loved the space and the staff made it so easy for us. Much nicer than just one room as people can be in different places, with different noise levels too. Stage makes a good dance floor. Only sorry it was cold so we could not use the outside space. A flamboyant show exceptionally moving and striking. So many different mediums, acting professional high standard. Magical and surrereal, with an erriee atomospheric mood. An expressionist combination of artistic flamboyance. The venue is like a trinket box full of mysteries. More...

It was very aesthetically pleasing in an individual aspect however it is impossible to be completely and utterly immersed in the performance because of the children . On the one hand this is a good thing because your kids get involved , and yet the downside is that you cannot fully enjoy the play More...

What do you love most about your job?
Every day is different - whether it is about the event we have on that day (a show, a workshop or a wedding to name but three) or the customer interaction.
Norwich Puppet Theatre primarily promotes a unique niche artform, and we are more than just a building (beautiful though it is) that people pass on the inner ring road each day.
Why should our clients choose you?
Norwich Puppet Theatre is special - it is one of only three dedicated puppet theatres in England; we are set in a Grade 1 listed Medieval church; and the staff are great !!
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Covid interventions include acrylic screens at box office and shop/bar area
one way system through the building
social distancing in the main theatre
hand sanitiser located at entrance, toilets, and other touch points
temperature taken of all customers on arrival
particiation in the Test and Trace scheme
Performances
We create and perform our own puppet plays for family audiences
Workshops
Creative craft based workshops in puppet making, shadow puppetry and animation.
'Off the shelf' workshops available for all ages, but we LOVE to tailor make sessions to suit your requirements.
Wedding venue
A theatre in a medieval church... your event will be the star attraction on the stage! Come and take a look at what we can offer your special day!
