Amazing museum, both mine and my 4-yr old’s favourite. The place is free to enter, exceptionally well thought out, and truly stunning. The Mallard Experience in particular, makes you feel like you’ve been part of history. Whether you’re “in to trains” or not, you simply cannot visit York without visiting the National Railway Museum..... a National Treasure! More...

Amazing place to visit. So much to see. So glad we went. Fascinated by the enormity of the trains. A must for anyone visiting York even if you're not a train enthusiast

Fabulous and immaculate collection of engines, carriages and oddments very well restored and preserved. Needs two hours to even start to do it justice. My family all worked at Horwich loco works and I pleased to see two engines from there including the first one they made. More...

We went over the holidays and there were loads of great activities for children. Good selection of stuff to do. Train rides for adults and kids available. Land train looked good but we ran out of time. You could spend along time here. More...

Words cannot explain the child like wonder and excitement that erupts in a person when they enter this museum. The sheer amount of trains is almost overwhelming it truly is the best place to see the sheer beauty of these locomotives. I used to go here as a child but stopped going for like 7 years and words cannot describe how extatic I was when I was told I would be going to the museum again. Whether you have kids or not if you haven't gone here you are doing something wrong it is just an amazing place to go to. More...

The greatest experience ever. It was free but the parking was £10, but in all honesty it's worth paying simply to keep this place going. The mini train was great! I think it was about £4 per person, nice little experience. There's tons to do and the trains are astonishing. More...
