Loved it. I ended up in room 19 which isn't in the main building but just across from it, on street level. I basically had a front door from the street into my room. As a smoker and a driver (on site parking is £5 per 24hrs)this made things very much easier for me and was also a new experience. Anyway, the room was very clean and comfy, the chairs and bed too. The historic building is as beautiful as it is old(500 yrs), however, it still has everything you'd expect from a 4 star hotel. The bathroom was modern and despite the sticker warning suggesting I may have to let the taps run for a bit to get hot water, I didnt have any trouble at all. My only two gripes. 1, no central heating. The room was supplied with a plugin heater and an extension lead, so I'm calling no harm, no foul on that one. 2. When I went to check out I was asked to pay for 2 meals that I didnt order. After some confusion, and the fact I ate five guys and would never eat anything that didnt originally come from a farm, I was allowed to leave without having to pay for the offending meals. So, in summary, not the very best I've been in, but still is an absolutely lovely place to stay if your not gonna be at home. I'd definitely recommend it, and I'll probably come back if I'm ever in town again. More...

Southampton is worth a visit and definitely stay at the Hotel Mercure Southampton . Only stayed one sunday night but we enjoyed the history of somewhere that was first mentioned before 1650.Today a modern hotel inside with much old building observable. We had an upgrade into a suite which was a large bedroom plus a separate lounge, dressing gowns and slippers. Thje receptionist was exceptional, explaining everything to us, and all the staff were very friendly and efficient. Evening meal was quite acceptable at 4 * prices though, breakfast good with usual range of dishes but there were no coissants or danish pastries. Located right in the centre of town with shopping centre close by. Parking is available at the back of the hotel. I would stay there again. More...

This is my first stay in The Dolphin and I wasn't disappointed. With being on a busy thoroughfare, I requested a quiet room and the hotel duly obliged. The room was homely and welcoming and spotlessly clean. The bar and dining room areas are very good and the buffet style breakfast was spot on. My sister and I have birthdays which are one week apart so we usually do something every year together, to celebrate this year we decided to have afternoon tea , when we arrived we were greeted by Colin as soon and shown to a table in front of a window which we loved as like to "people watch" . The cake stand was put on the table and we wondered how we were going to eat it all, three different types of sandwiches, Eaton mess, and lovely scones fresh from the oven, what a feast and pots of tea of course. So a big thank to you you made two old lady's very happy . More...

My wife and I stayed in the Mercure for a couple of nights before our cruise. The Hotel is centrally located and about 5 minutes from the terminal. The highlights are the food and the staff. The food in the restaurant is excellent and the breakfast delicious The ambiance and decor in the restaurant was pleasant. .The staff very hard working. Colin is a soldier works tirelessly and is always tries to satisfy his customers. At the reception, Samantha or Sammi was fantastic. Extremely helpful and professional always with a smile.||||Our room had plenty of room. The only criticism was that our rooms and much of the Hotel was tired looking. In our bathroom, you could see the enamel chipped in the bath showing the black paint. All the carpets were worn. If they were only replaced and the bathroom refurbished, then the Hotel could be a 5-star Hotel.||||In any event, we would be happy to return to this Hotel for our next cruise. More...

The hotel does a great cruise and stay package, with parking included. Thanks to the wonderful staff for making my 3 night visit a relaxing one. Everyone working in each department deserves praise in keeping this 99 Room historic hotel a smooth operation. Please note this hotel is a 400 year old historical landmark centrally located in the city. You will find an unusual hallway layout and floors which make sounds, but this is to be expected considering the property’s age.||My bedroom was just perfect - full bed with cozy comforter, desk with lamp and local brochure, coffee/tea stand, closet and nice, clean bath en Suite. I would recommend the bath have a few shelves for personal toiletries, but I did enjoy the mirror light coming on automatically when in use.||The breakfast was not included, however, the front desk included it for me as I was staying for 3 nights. Excellent croissants, eggs, fruits and coffee in the modern dining room with an option to have eggs cooked to order! Lovely. Being an Innkeeper myself, I appreciated all that was offered to me.
