From the welcome at the start of my week, it has been very pleasant. Staff were very friendly, without being over attentive. Breakfast had everything pretty much covered, from continental, the usual range of cereals and a decent choice too, to the cooked stuff, which was always pretty decent.||During the week, there were specials on 2 of the nights I was there, plus the rooms were always clean and tidy on my return from work. Quite difficult to find the hotel in the dark during the rush hour.Comfortable spacious room.Had to call Reception for a hair dryer but they brought it to the room promptly. No upgrade despite being Platinum Elite, no toiletries.Room service took about half an hour and the food was not very hot. We were so looking forward to staying here as we usually book the Travelodge nearby, good until my husband, daughter and myself entered the breakfast area, firstly the tables had not been cleared so we had to ask for a table to be cleared. There were no cups or mugs available for hot drinks therefore customers were standing around waiting. I asked a member of staff for a coffee cup and was told to get one off a table, I would have done this had there been a clean cup available. I asked again for a cup and was still waiting 10 minutes so I had to lean over and get one from the hotel bar. It was embarrassing.There was no bread, no pastries, no muffins available and the one pot of jam available did not look appetising at all. I therefore ordered the American pancakes off the menu, I waited and waited then overheard the member of staff tell another customer that they had no American pancakes, I was still waiting so eventually had to go and search out my pancakes, it seemed she had forgotten so again I waited then she brought me a plate with 2 English plain pancakes, not at all what I was expecting, no maple syrup, no bacon, actually nothing resembling the description on the menu so I said no thank you and returned them. As a result 2 of us had no breakfast. I have never encountered such a dismal breakfast selection. As you can imagine we were very disappointed. Sleep disturbed at 3 and 5 am by raucous fellow guests standing and smoking outside front door. The receptionist did get them to quieten but it was very disturbing ! Suggest making the foyer and area outside non smoking and preventing such .Breakfast on 24 th was hopeless with most items not available and too fewstaff.Also disturbed to see hygiene rating is not satisfactory at only 3 stars. Despite the ongoing renovations to the lobby area, the hotel was brilliant to stay at and I believe it was the staff that made it so. Very comfy rooms and helpful staff. Our hairdryer didnt work and whilst having dinner, they kindly replaced it in the room so when I went back to reception after dinner they said it was all sorted - that was a nice gesture. The hotel is clean, is handy as its just off the M4 (but you don't notice this fact - you can't hear the traffic) and for a hotel in Cardiff is reasonably priced.

We were very pleased with our 3 night stay in spite of the ongoing refurbishment work. The staff were all extremely helpful and recommended places to go in Cardiff on a very wet day with small children! We had good breakfasts and our only adverse comment about all the meals was that the size of the Chocolate Brownie on the `Kids menu' was much too big, and led to an after supper sugar rush! We will be using this hotel again when in Cardiff and look forward to viewing the finished lobby and restaurant area. More...
