I couldn't agree more with all the positive reviews on Jerry. We had a neighbour objecting to a garage conversion. We wanted to do all we could to appease him as it was for my elderly mum. Fairburns was one of many surveyors I made contact with when I ran into problems with one of my neighbours over the party wall. I had planning permission for a loft conversion and small rear extension which by law requires me to have a party wall agreement with both neighbours. Being reasonably intelligent and having done some research online I thought it would be well within my capabilities to do this myself. Unfortunately one neighbour refused to engage with me and was extremely evasive. After months of waiting and still no further on I was left facing huge delays to the project.

Jerry was extremely down to earth and relatable which I liked immediately. The clarity and simplicity of his website was a good indicator of his character and ethos. He spoke at length with me on the phone and we agreed a ‘belt and braces’ approach to resolving the issue.

Jerry was extremely professional and handled things with a firm but gentle touch through out. The matter progressed with my neighbour appointing a second surveyor (for which I was financially responsible for Interestingly, they appointed one of the surveyors I had first contacted and quickly rejected early doors.

This surveyor seemed unbothered by the time pressures I faced with a nearing start date having already been messed around by the neighbour in question for many many months prior to his involvement and was also seemingly happy for the costs to mount up with various repeated requests for information which had already been provided and / or dragging his heels on coming to an agreement.

I was extremely lucky to have Jerry on my side. He was very frank with the other surveyor on the delays and charges. He ensured the party wall agreement was processed within a reasonable time, and worked into his annual family holiday to ensure the party wall agreement was signed off ready for the start of my build. He also worked well over the hours quoted for and still honoured the original quote he had given me. What a nice, genuine man.

Jerry also, produced a ‘schedule of condition’ for both neighbours properties - something which has come In very handy! I would strongly advise you to have this done as you have a record of how the property looked before any work was done and can therefore bat away any false claims that your builder or schedule of works has caused damage to your neighbours property!
