Just got back from a 5 day one to one intermediate course with Ciarán and I cannot thank him enough. As a teacher he is excellent and very patient. He works through by example all the different joints and if you are uncertain, he will explain in more detail. I was fortunate that the one on one tuition allowed for a bespoke approach to the coffee table project incorporating unique elements of design that would not be possible on the 6-day group intermediate course. I did the beginners course over 4 days and could not recommend it enough. From the course material, Ciaran’s wealth of knowledge, the relaxed atmosphere to the tasty pub lunches everything was spot on. Well worth every penny!

I recently did the four-day beginners course with Ciarán at Cheshire Woodworking and would not hesitate to recommend it to anybody.
Ciarán is an outstanding teacher and possesses infinite knowledge and patience, he also has the ability to make a cup of tea appear on your bench as if by magic when you’re working away!

I've just completed the four-day 'Intensive Beginners'course with my 22 year-old son. Challenging, exhausting but so rewarding even for someone with my limited abilities. Ciarán is an exceptional teacher, patient, skilled and able to provide just the right level of support needed by each one of us. I just completed the intensive intermediate course which I have say was a fantastic few days. Ciaran is a great teacher and the time in the workshop really builds confidence to tackle more advanced projects, with Ciaran providing tonnes of insight and tips along the way. The atmosphere is really relaxed and before you know it you are knocking out dovetails without even thinking - something I would have never have tackled before the course.I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to go on from the beginner level. I've just completed the 10 week beginner course and from the first lesson I was hooked and looked forward to it every week. From preparing and sharpening tools through to creating your own piece of furniture, the course is invaluable for learning the fundamentals of woodworking. By the halfway point I had already been inspired to collect and prepare a full set of vintage and new tools which I used on the course (although a fine set of tools is provided) and I have already started my first piece of furniture at home. I’ve just completed a fantastic 4 day beginner’s course. A wonderful experience of learning new woodwork skills, while producing a piece of furniture that I can take home with me and be proud of. I had the opportunity to learn in the friendly atmosphere provided by Ciaran, while he shared his wealth of knowledge and experience, as well as lots of drinks and biscuits throughout the day, not to mention the lunch together at the castle park centre. I have just completed the 4 day intensive beginners course. What an awesome weekend. I cannot believe how much I have learned on this course. Ciarán is an excellent teacher and a master craftsman. The 4 days are really full on but the atmosphere is laid back and enjoyable. My wife bought me the two day wood turning course as a present.
From the off Cairan was brilliant - First morning was going through safety, sharpening and the basics - excellently done. Then it was onto the lathes - that is what makes this course stand - it was so hands on!
Ciaran is an excellent instructor - his passion for wood is very evident. While we got going with wood turning he kept us going on tea and biscuits. Lunch was provided at a local pub.
End of the first day I was so chuffed at having turned a honey drizzler! The other items? Pen great, bowl likewise but the garden dibber? Maybe that should become part of a mortar and pestle!

A really enjoyable course with lots of opportunity for hands-on woodturning experience.

Ciaran is an excellent tutor who after an overview of the lathe and the tools to use, is available to offer his wealth of knowlege and experience, as we have the opportunity to use our newly gained knowledge to produce a number of completed and finished woodturned pieces.

A very rewarding and fulfilling 2 days of woodturning, with lunch at a great local pub as welcome refreshment. Well worth doing. More...

Having just finished the four day beginners intensive woodworking course, I can honestly say it was the best course I've ever done. Ciaran is a fantastic tutor, very experienced, extremely knowledgeable and has excellent patience. He's also a great host. I started on Friday morning with very little woodworking skills and by Monday I had made a beautiful display stand, complete with mortise and tenon joints. This is a new hobby I will definitely continue and hope to be back soon for the intermediate course. More...
