Internal Door Fitter

Needed all interior doors at my house removed and replaced. Billy contacted me and came and gave me a prompt quote. He stuck to the time scale. Provided excellent workmanship, cleaned up every evening and disposed of old doors. Kept me informed of any changes he had to make - ie compatible door furniture etc. Would highly recommend Billy for any work. 2 of my friends have already asked for his contact after seeing the job carried out. Q&As

There are several factors that can indicate whether a garage is suitable for conversion, and some of them include:

Size and Shape: The size and shape of the garage are important considerations when deciding if it is suitable for conversion. A garage that is too small or has an unusual shape may not be practical for conversion.
Access: The garage should have good access to the house and the street, and should not be too isolated from the rest of the property.
Structural Integrity: The garage should be structurally sound, with no major issues such as damp, subsidence or cracks in the walls or floor.
Building Regulations: The garage must meet building regulations in terms of insulation, ventilation, and fire safety. You should check with your local building control department to ensure that any work you plan to undertake will comply with the regulations.
Planning Permission: If you plan to convert your garage into a habitable room, you may need planning permission from your local authority. This will depend on the specific regulations in your area and the scope of the work you plan to undertake.
Utilities: The garage should be connected to the main utilities, such as electricity, gas, and water.
Budget: You should consider your budget carefully before embarking on a garage conversion. Depending on the scope of the work, it can be a significant investment, so it's important to ensure that you have the resources to complete the project to a high standard.

Planning and Design: The first stage of a garage conversion is to plan and design the project. This may involve consulting with a professional, such as an architect or builder, to assess the feasibility of the conversion and to help with the design. You will need to consider the intended use of the new space, the layout, and the materials to be used.
Building Regulations and Planning Permission: You will need to check whether you need planning permission and building regulations approval for the conversion. Your local authority will be able to advise you on the requirements in your area.
Preparation: The next stage involves preparing the garage for conversion. This may include clearing out the contents of the garage, making any necessary repairs to the structure, and installing insulation and damp-proofing measures.
Electrical and Plumbing: Once the preparation work is complete, the next stage is to install any necessary electrical and plumbing services, such as lighting, heating, and water supply.
Construction: The construction stage involves building any new walls, installing doors and windows, and laying flooring. This will typically involve the use of a variety of tradespeople, such as carpenters, electricians, and plumbers.
Decoration: Once the construction work is complete, the new space will need to be decorated. This will involve painting or wallpapering the walls, installing any fixtures and fittings, and adding finishing touches.
Completion: The final stage of a garage conversion is to ensure that the space is finished to a high standard and that all necessary paperwork is in place, such as building regulations certification.

Height: The loft must have a minimum height of 2.3m from the top of the ceiling joist to the underside of the ridge board to be considered suitable for conversion. This is to ensure that the new space has adequate headroom.
Structure: The structure of the loft must be strong enough to support the weight of the new floor, the walls, and any new fixtures and fittings. A structural engineer or builder can assess the suitability of the structure.
Roof Type: The type of roof can affect the feasibility of a loft conversion. A traditional pitched roof with a gable end is typically the easiest type to convert, while hipped roofs may require more complex structural alterations.
Access: The loft must have suitable access, either through an existing staircase or by installing a new one. If the loft is currently accessed by a ladder, a new staircase will need to be installed.
Insulation: The loft must be adequately insulated to meet current building regulations. If the insulation is inadequate, it may need to be replaced.
Building Regulations: A loft conversion must comply with building regulations in terms of fire safety, insulation, ventilation, and other factors. It is important to consult with your local authority building control department to ensure that the conversion meets these requirements.
Planning Permission: In some cases, planning permission may be required for a loft conversion. This will depend on the specific regulations in your area and the scope of the work you plan to undertake.

Structural Work: The structural work stage involves adding new floor joists, strengthening the roof structure if required, and installing new windows or skylights to provide natural light.
Construction: The construction stage involves building any new walls, installing doors and windows, and laying flooring. This will typically involve the use of a variety of tradespeople, such as carpenters, electricians, and plumbers.
