Counselling, a type of talking therapy, can help a person explore difficult feelings, such as anxiety or depression, in a safe and confidential setting. For example, feelings of stress, low self-esteem and depression are very common and can be caused by a wide range of life events. Counselling offers a supportive environment for you to talk about any difficulties you may be experiencing.

I’m a BACP registered counsellor and therapist offering online counselling services to the UK and face to face sessions in Helston, Camborne, Redruth, Falmouth and Truro. I trained in person-centred counselling and therapy. I’d love to help and support you on your journey to find healing and self-discovery.

Every relationship has problems at some time or another and may need help. However, if the robust discussion becomes a raging row, we can lose the issues in the storm. As an illustration, do relationships break because the toothpaste lid is left off?

Relationship counselling – also known as relationship therapy – provides a safe, confidential space to discuss your relationship and can help whether it’s a marriage, civil partnership or something less formal.

In other words, if communication has been fraught with fierce arguments, slanging matches, negativity and searing accusations, does it help? Counselling sessions can help give you space to explore the challenges you face.

Counselling for teenagers is a form of therapy that helps them with any issues they may be going through and helps their mental health.

Counsellors create a nonjudgemental space, unconditional positive regard, acceptance and empathy. Sessions can allow the teen to open up without interruption and feel comfortable sharing things they may not have shared before.

Young people often find it easier to express themselves verbally through conversation rather than writing it down on paper. Speaking about their mental health problems – depression, for example – supports young people to improve their mental health.

Men are more likely than women to suffer from mental illnesses, but men rarely seek help or counselling for their problems.

This is mainly because men have been conditioned to believe that they should not express emotional pain and weakness, which has led the men in our society who need help to feel ashamed of themselves and what they’re going through. Consequently, men are less likely to seek mental health support.

This attitude serves as a barrier between men and the services that could benefit them. We must break this stigma so men can get the treatment they deserve and find peace with themselves again. Men often face limited access to resources such as therapy and counselling services due to limitations on finances, education level, employment status, etc.

Still, it doesn’t mean these troubles will disappear on their own. ‘Getting on with it’ could lead to serious mental health problems and self-medication, for example, substance abuse.

Men suffering from depression or other mental illnesses should not feel discouraged from seeking help. Instead, men need to know that counselling and therapy can positively benefit them. Counselling is designed to help men understand themselves better, manage feelings and work towards a more fulfilled life.
