Great food, lovely venue and helpful staff. Highly recommend
Quick, friendly service. Good food with a comprehensive menu.Limited ale selection on this occasion.
The plough is right in the centre of this lovely little town . The rooms are very tidy and comfortable . The staff are really friendly and helpful. Would stay again next time
Fantastic pub, lovely decor, very clean and bright. There was no room for us to eat but the mangeress still found a spot for us. The food was superb the fish and chips were one of the best we have eaten anywhere. It's not the cheapest but you get very good quality food and excellent service! More...
This boutique hotel in Alnwick was chosen by our family to be our base leading for my daughters wedding at the Alnwick Garden Treehouse. |It’s a really tight arch from the road to the decent sized car park at the rear. ( 2x disabled spaces) so take care, closed wing mirrors is a must if you can. |There is no lift but it’s not the end of the world. |Spacious rooms (we had “Muckle & Marra”) with good bathrooms. Cleanliness was great and very comfortable. |The staff were exceptional, friendly and gave us the rare feeling these days that they actually cared if we were comfortable, happy with the service, meals etc. |Every request was met with a smile and enthusiasm even to the point of supplying me with the private mobile of a lady who was prepared to stay up late at home and return to the hotel after midnight to let us in rather than have us use the usual late entrance. |Smart comfortable bar for snacks or meals and a very nice first floor restaurant. |Many thanks to all, especially Claire and Kelly. ||I would highly recommend the Plough for accommodation, meals and snacks. We recently held our wedding at the Plough and we wanted to leave a review to say thanks to Claire and her staff. We both loved ever second of the day, all thanks to the efforts of the Plough staff who made sure that proceedings went smoothly. From the beautifully set out ceremony room to the amazing transformation that occurred to then house our wedding breakfast, Claire and her staff ensured that every detail was perfect for our wedding day. The quality of the food was second to none and commented upon by all our guests, it truly was high quality and we look forward to visiting again to sample other menu items. More...

Nice clean modern boutique style hotel. Really friendly helpful staff especially Charlotte
Without doubt the most friendliest staff you could ever meet! Room very clean. A couple of things could have done with a little TLC, but it was more that outweighed by such super welcoming staff! Will defo go again!
Great Sunday lunch. Accommodating friendly staff.

Only popped in for a few drinks but loved it. Beautiful building and interior. Stunning decor and staff were very polite. Next time we will stop for food!
Didn’t book and was told at first there was no table available. Ordered a drink before we left to be told that the chef would serve an extra table where did we want to sit! !! |Upstairs was our reply |Not too busy so unsure why told no table |But that didn’t stop us enjoying the sea food plough mans amazing selection of fish. So much we should have shared one. I didn’t have room for desert |The gin selection was great along with the wine we chose to have with the meal More...
We stayed for two nights and found the staff, location, room and food faultless.||Great to have 'free' on site parking and anyone who can drive 'should easily' be able to drive through the archway! Excellent location in Alnwick to walk everywhere. We were upgraded on arrival which was nice. They do not pre-warn you about the very narrow arch entrance that you need to fold your wing mirrors in to get into the car park. A wide car would not get in. There is a back entrance that we were not told about until we arrived, but it is still a tight 90° turn, a few shunts required for long or wide cars. Food okay, breakfast not included. I asked for eggs benedict and was asked if that was with a fried egg, and it was swamped with hollandaise sauce, about a cupful.Next day l asked for scrambled egg and salmon. The egg had been microwaved as it was the shape of a big ramekin dish, and very dry. More...
This was our first trip to Alnwick and we were bowled over by the town and also the hotel. Everyone was so helpful and friendly, the food was excellent and our room was so cosy. We have no problem in recommending this hotel to anyone. Only one thing.....there is no lift, so if you have heavy luggage you might want assistance or pack a smaller case. More...

We were just stopping for dinner on the way through trying to avoid a traffic queue. We tried to find somewhere open on bank holiday Monday evening that would allow us to take a dog. The hotel bar was accommodating, the food choices were plenty and the prices were fair. The food came in good time and polite service and was all very tasty, well cooked, hot. There were six of us for afternoon tea on Saturday. We arrived early and were offered tea and coffee straight away. When our friends arrived, pots of hot tea were brought to the table. The afternoon tea was one of the best I have had. A good choice of sandwiches, cheese scones with butter, fruit scones with jam and clotted cream. Homemade shortbread, choux buns topped with chocolate and filed with cream, strawberry pavlov, chocolate brownie with sauce and topped with a walnut, and ginger cake. It was fresh and delicious. This C19th coaching inn was fully redecorated recently and gives a very comfortable stay. Several guests joined me for dinner before the wedding, and were all well fed (pub favourites, locally sourced specials and novelties - Asian spiced hake for me - all dietary requirements covered). For breakfast I stuck to cereal and croissants hot from the oven, but there were several tasty cooked breakfast options too. Special thanks to Ellie for her help throughout the weekend. More...

I booked a room for myself whilst staying up on Business, so it was very central to where I wanted to be the following morning in alnwick. There were no car parking signs, so I simply rang them. They gave we instructions, and to be honest I should I know the archway next to the pub was the carpark. I was greeted very friendly by a young lady who took me up to my room and mentioned she had upgraded me as there weren’t many guests, I’d booked a single room and this was a double. I was very pleased. The room was fantastic, in fact I took photos to inspire my bedroom at home! Nice decor, clean and really well presented. The lady explained they’d had issue with my window, but with it being winter it shouldn’t be a problem, which was true. Bed was comfy, shower was powerful, amenities were very very good. I ate on my own, being young away on business with couples around you can be quite daunting but they were talkative and were making sure I was well attended. I ordered the chicken Caesar and I can hand on heart say it was the best one I’ve ever had in my life! It was beautiful! Breakfast in the morning was well laid out, I was served by the same lady, and the food and service again was not even faultable. Was quite disheartened having a read of the bad reviews. It’s a sad you can rate something 1 or 2 stars based on not being served quick enough, or the beer is too expensive- it’s an expensive place! Go to London and you’ll be shocked £4 is cheap, it’s not Wetherspoons! Anyway, very pleased by the food, accommodation and especially the service. Will definitely be visiting again when I’m back in a few months. Thanks!! More...

This is a review of the restaurant inside The Plough pub/hotel.||||We ate in the upstairs dining room at the plough twice recently. We really enjoyed it.||||The restaurant is called The Meat Club, and therefore has a "meatcentric" menu, but even though we are predominantly seafood eaters, we managed to find food we enjoyed on there.||||First visit we shared the Skegen Cocktail, which was shrimp and salmon served like a prawn cocktail. Our waitress was concerned it was too small a dish to share, (we weren't!), and asked the chef to make it bigger. It was HUGE when it arrived. ||||For mains I had the fish board, which is offered as a main for 1 or an appetiser for 2 to share. This was huge again. I ate half and we had the leftovers for dinner the following night! My husband had the steak. It was excellent.||||On our second visit I had the normal sized Skegen Cocktail (thank goodness!), followed by the chicken caesar salad. I had the dinner size, but the appetiser size would have been enough. My husband ate the Asian Spiced Hake which was significantly smaller than the other main courses.||||All the food was delicious. The service was excellent. Would definitely recommend it. More...

We spent last night Friday 27th July at the Plough , as we were going to a birthday celebration function at The Tree House restaurant in Alnwick Gardens. ||The Plough was the perfect location, just 400 m from the Tree House.||We had booked well in advance as we knew with only 8 rooms it would be very busy in July . ||We ve said a delightful stay because the whole staff team work hard to make the stay pleasurable and enjoyable. Nothing is too much trouble, always a smile and a friendly ,helpful attitude by each and every member of staff. ||||The owner and manager will be very proud of their charming, professional team who make this small hotel an excellent place to stay and recommendable.||||The Northumberland breakfast was lovely ,with a perfectly cooked egg,and well cooked bacon (just as I like it) as well as the rest of food ,all cooked to order ,hot and faultless. There were a good choice of breakfasts available on the menu.||||We stayed in the small double room as I think it may have been the only one available at the time of booking . Yes it was small and also the ensuite but frankly it was more than adequate for an overnight stay ,a comfortable bed, all the facilities you expect ,very quiet, spotlessly clean and tidy and we slept very well.||There is a good size car park, but careful manoeuvring through the stone arch required in our BMW ,pulled in the wing mirrors and took it careful so no problem there.||We would stay here again and recommend it to friends too.|||| Our thanks to all the staff. The staff at the plough were very helpful including the cleaning lady, there was a fair few in that room getting hair and make up done for the wedding. ||The room was nice and bathroom ok. Upon checking in and settling into our room that we had booked to be a standard room for £145 we knew we’d been made to feel like we wouldn’t notice they were charging us for a standard double room but we were in a small double (£109). What a gem. This is a great establishment, the room was cosy, bed extremely comfortable and with fee parking. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent. Could not fault and with breakfast included it is well worth it. Some might find it expensive but well worth it. Highly recommended. More...
Amazing place with great and friendly staff great food and even worked around my fussy husband thank you so much
Very helpful staff. Good choice available, well cooked and presented.
We will go again.
Nice enough with good food, just a bit over modernised so the interior is like anywhere else.
Really nice bar. Attended a wedding do there and it was beautiful
Bit expensive but staff lovely and nice atmosphere
The staff are superb and the food is great for the price. You won't feel unwelcome and you won't feel out priced. Dogs and kids welcome and when it is sunny, the front and back terraces are a real sun spot.
The Plough has become a social hub for Alnwick. Although the drinks are rather expensive, the atmosphere and decor go a long way to making it worth a visit. I was last there for a evening event, the back room is beautiful, spacious and has a good speaker system for speeches. The food (roast beef dinner and cheese board) was outstanding quality, putting most steaks to shame. More...

Excellent meal! Trio of game was superb
Nice food for our Christmas dinner
Came here for our Christmas doo... fantastic venue and great staff. The beers are limited but if you like a couple of the main players, you'll be OK.
The Plough is a lovely hotel, the decor and the people were lovely, our room was nice and quite large for a standard double. We are booked in for our wedding night and am looking forward to coming back. The breakfast was very nice, cooked breakfast, toast and plenty of tea and coffee on order.|If I have one criticism, the shower room could do with a little sprucing up, shower head pole was rotten and cable ties holding it all together. Was a little shocked considering the high standards everywhere else. More...
Spoiled rotten by everyone at the Plough. Highly recommend this family hotel if you're in Alnwick.
Good food and friendly staff great location
A characterful boutique hotel, in the heart of Alnwick, perfectly located within minutes walk of the famous Alnwick Castle. ||We were allocated room 6, at the top of the hotel. Less abled may find it difficult to get to as up two flights of stairs. ||The room itself large and beautifully appointed, with a subtle tartan themed decor. Large, comfortable double bed, comfy leather chair, all made for a pleasant night.||The addition of complimentary water, crisps and artisan biscuits in the room, made us feel welcome.||A pleasant surprise of a single stemmed red rose (Valentines Day) left on the bed was an additional bonus, and much appreciated.||Several choices of cooked breakfast were available, along with buffet style cereals, fruit and yoghurt.||The bar area of the hotel was very cosy, serving a good selection of beverages and not overly priced.||The staff were particularly helpful and caring. It seemed like nothing was too much trouble. Well done! More...
Stopped off for a pint. The place had a mixture of tourists and locals in as customers. The staff were pleasant and on the ball. We didn't have anything to eat here, but after a sneak look at the meals going out they looked great. |Nice place give it a go. More...
Very nice place. Lovely surrounding area.
Good food, good service
Considering there were a large number of us to serve at once the staff managed very well. I had a goats cheese tart which was just warm when we were able to eat having waited for the rest of the company to get their starters. My main course of fresh salmon was delicious & beautifully presented with vegetables served on the side. I chose Profiteroles as my dessert as I felt it was lighter than my favourite which is Sticky Toffee Pudding. The staff served tea or coffee for those of us that wanted it and were happy to solve my main course request of no sauce on the salmon which I think may have come as standard. We all had an enjoyable time and the standard from when I last visited two years ago has been maintained. Well done! More...
Great Sunday lunch
Nice place, the staff are friendly and helpful
This hotel is in the perfect location for a couple of days in Alnwick, being in the town and a very short walk from both Alnwick castle and Alnwick gardens. ||The room was comfortable and quiet but out of preference we would have preferred shelves in the bathroom for toiletries and such. Not an issue for a couple of nights but would have bothered me if we had stayed longer. Also, the showers are incredibly loud, which is a bit of a bother if people are up early! ||The staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was good, although if the menu states fresh fruit is included, it is disappointing to find no fruit available throughout the duration of our stay.||Overall the hotel was nice and the location was perfect. My daughter is having her wedding reception here in July. The staff and service here is first class.
Very nice pub more upmarket than most in alnwick
Lovely decor and fab service with a smile
My wife and I booked a small double. Not sure if we were upgraded but we were given room 2 which I would say was a good size, bigger than most continental rooms. Bed was comfortable and bathroom nice. The shower was very powerful but the head was loose to the holder. Coffee machine was hidden away in a wardrobe; no kettle was supplied, we had to ask for one. Breakfast was really nice, I recommend the black pudding! More...
We visited on a Tuesday evening and were welcomed by friendly staff. The menu was varied with excellent choices. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the food was very good. We will definitely visit again if we are in the area. More...
Decent, if quiet, pub.
We had thoroughly enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch, so decided to go back one evening and were slightly disappointed. My main came in a cold dish and was luke warm. The staff handled my complaint well. Very friendly staff on both visits. More...
The Plough was well furnished and had a good variety of popular drinks, including a plethora of gin. The only annoying thing was that it didn't serve food past 4 on a Sunday and the bar was difficult to get to due to the layout of furniture. Staff were very sharp and friendly. More...
Beautiful location on a wonderful summer evening to celebrate a family wedding. The Plough is a modern but traditionally designed location with a wide variety of drinks on offer. The staff were helpful and polite and the prices were reasonable. More...
Lovely venue with nice staff
Although only popping in for a quick drink in the heat, the service provided was excellent and attentive. Atmosphere was warm and welcoming and will certainly be back if I pass through Alnwick in the future. X
Just called in for a quick half. Beer was fine :)
We were not staying here but ate our evening meal twice here in the main restaurant over 3 days. Quality of the food and service was good and while pricier than other restaurants in the town we found it to be reasonable. ||While not haute cuisine, the food was good quality, and tasty and certainly, we would have no problem eating here again. Really nice town pub. Not to crowded. Lovely staff and very friendly. Great atmosphere. A good stop on route for food and a return visit after we had eaten. The Alnwick rum looked good. Fancy a stay here next time I'm in town. More...
Small double room was perfect for what we needed. Rather warm but there is an air con unit which came in very handy. Staff were great and were able to provide our group (5 rooms) with early check in which was appreciated. Located on main street.
Just had lunch at the plough, mixed ages from 5 to 50. We ate outside, which was really pleasent, we had a range from the menu from the huge fisherman tasting plate to really stunning crab soup. ||||The burgers and delicious beef dripping chips went down a treat as did the toasted sandwich for the 5 year old. ||||Don't go here if you want super fast service as everything is made fresh and obviously so. We thought the service time appropriate for the food ordered. It's was great food in a lovely relaxing environment. We will be back. More...
Very enjoyable nice atmosphere loved it
Lively pub and upmarket.
Great choice of food , portions were very generous and service was great too , they give you the bill and you pay downstairs in the bar - the staff are missing a trick as I'm sure they are missing out in lots of tipping customers
Good food, quiet place
We've been in here several times for drinks and decided to have a meal to celebrate a special event. We had 2 mains, the lobster salad and the fish board. Excellent quality fish, very well presented and the staff were professional and very helpful. Would definitely eat here again when we're next in Alnwick! More...
Rooms were very tidy and well looked after, staff were friendly and would visit again if ever in Alnwick! Few restaurants to visit around and would recommend the dirty bottles. The Alnwick castle is a must to go and see if you have spare time More...
Wonderful hotel, food was 5* in the restaurant and the bar, we stayed here for one night and the hotel was fabulous, the room was small but clean and beautifully decorated. The hotel is beautifully decorated and we enjoyed our stay there very much. More...
Stayed here with a large group for a wedding. The room was huge (believe ot was the bridal suite) bath and shpwer were amazing and the bed was so comfy. Only downside was the room had bugs. Breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice. Staff were fabulous and really made the hotel special for us. More...
Modern furnishings in the public areas, and neat minimalist decor in the bedroom. (Why are wall-plugs in hotel bedrooms throughout the length and breadth of the country always so few in number and always just outside charging-lead range of the bedside table? ). Well stocked hospitality tray - when you find it, out of view in the cupboard! Spotlessly clean shower and toilet with plentiful towels. Helpful and happy staff, and a very good breakfast. What more to say; perfectly acceptable in the price range, and well worth a second visit should circumstances draw the traveller to Alnwick. A nice find. More...
Stayed for two nights early August , our first impressions were very positive . The hotel is very tastefuly decorated and the staff very friendly and helpful. ||The room (1) was very clean and once again taseful. It was a nice touch to have a welcome brownie , just the thing after a long drive with a cup of tea.||However the room is on the first floor next to the fire escape and the windows do not open, as a result the room is excruciatingly hot . There is a mobile air con unit is supplied in the room howeer it is not fit for purpose, as it too small for the room.(Like a previous reviewer we to had to "google" the instructions . This resulted in two very uncomfortable nights of not very much sleep. ||This was a real shame as the rest of our stay was lovely ,weather , food etc.||I would return to The Plough but would stipulate at point of booking that i would like any room other than rm 1 or the room above it ,apparently it has the same problems .(the staff member who checked us out explained the window problems ) More...
Nice selection of gins, properly served in copa glasses with matched garnish.
More...

Stayed for 2 nights and was very pleased with the rooms, the facilities and the staff. We held a reunion buffet there for 30 on the Saturday night and it was superb. We would recommend it to anyone looking to stay somewhere in Alnwick. More...
Had a late dinner at The Plough. Everyone was quite satisfied with dinner. Nothing fancy, but no one left hungry. Our waiter was pleasant, but as we were upstairs we didn't see much of him. All in all, we were happy with our choice as we were staying just next door. More...
This is a quaint hotel on a main street with an archway at the side that has plenty of room to get your car through to access the car park. |We literally left this morning; i could of stayed longer!|Its beautifully decorated and the features make it feel like home.|Plenty of bedding, pillows, cushions and towels. |Free waters, crisps, biscuits and a Nespresso machine are awaiting you in your room; which were very welcoming after our late arrival.|There was a young guy at the bar who showed us to our room he was very welcoming, polite and down to earth and so was the lady who sorted us breakfast.|For breakfast as we were in room one we were right across from the dining room so nice and handy. We got greeted with a warm welcome, a hot drink and toast while we chose which hot breakfast we wanted. We picked the northumberland full breakfast which was good quality and came out quick and the lady even gave us more toast. Tea comes in a pot, there are jams on your table and a large table to help yourself to juices, cereals, fruit and pastries.|The bedroom was very warm, the windows didn't open and the view was a wall but it didn't bother me that much as we only stayed one night anyway.|Anyone that doesn't like solid hand soap take some liquid soap with you as its a block of soap they provide.|The only thing i could pick at was some bits of the room such as side tables were dusty and i have allergies so touching a tv remote full of dust wasn't great. |Also for some reason the shower and toilet are very loud but i don't know why that was haha. |Shame we missed the dining as the food looks great!|Would definitely go again!!! |Thank You!!! | More...

We recently held a party here and it was fabulous, staff were very welcoming and helpful, Claire could not have been anymore helpful from the initial booking until the actual evening, Michael was a great help in setting the room up in the morning and all staff in general were great. The room is beautiful and this was mentioned on many occasions by the party guests. Thank you so so much, we would highly recommend for any party/event. More...
We stopped off in Alnwick on our way further south and very happy we chose The Plough. The bar and lounge areas are cheery, really tastefully decorated and lit. We were welcomed with smiles and shown up to our room (3), which is large and again really nicely decorated. The bathroom is also huge with a great bath and shower.||We went down to the restaurant for dinner...again, a lovely room which was really comfortable. The servers were local girls and really charming and friendly. We ordered food and my wife, who eats a lot of prawn cocktail, said it was one of the best she has ever had. My terrine was also very lovely.||We then received the huge sharing steak from the specials board and it was fabulous... perfectly cooked and really tasty. ||Desserts were also just as good...the Eton Mess, another firm favourite, was superb as was the cheesecake||A great night sleep in the super comfy bed and up to breakfast, which was plentiful and really well cooked.||If going back to Alnwick for an extended stay we'll definitely stay in the Plough again and recommend anyone else does the same. Working away from home(yet again), I really do get to stay in some nice hotels, but this is one is up there with the best I've been in. Clean rooms with smart decor, easy access via a fob through a back door for when I get back from work, and egress for my early starts, and a restaurant serving some truly great food, as evidenced by how busy it was every night I was there, very friendly staff always happy to help, it is so good I'm going to ask the office to book me in here again for my next trip. Brilliant service, waitress interested, friendly and helpful. Meal was lovely.
Two decent hand pulled ales when we were here, though it's hard to get a big car into the car park
Good drinks, fast service, pleasant atmosphere. Food looked good.
Delicious food, attention to detail is fantastic. I would highly recommend the plough.
Service and kitchen can be a bit as slow, but I still think this is the best place to eat in Alnwick.
Great service from excellent staff. Lovely atmosphere with good prices
Stayed in one the b&b rooms for a wedding. Staff were great, helpful and all lovely. Able to handle a gluten allergy with ease, even making gluten free cookies for our friends with the allergy. The bar and restaurant are very well decorated, as are the bedrooms. Breakfast was a high standard with hot options made to order which were lovely. Saw a range of rooms due to 4 couples attending wedding, including bride, groom, best man and bridesmaid. Being an old building, the rooms are all different shapes and sizes, and the cost alters for small or large which was nice to see as not all b&bs do that. Was a few things that weren't well thought through and gave us issues to work around. Wardrobes were squat and no other hooks in the room other than the bathroom so needed to carefully drape longer clothing as not to crease it (brides dress and bridesmaids dresses were hard to find long hanging space for within 3 rooms so considering the upcoming wedding farye could invest in some high hooks, away from bathroom or dressing table areas or offer brides a freestanding rack or valet stand). Coffee machines in a few bedrooms were plugged in, in the wardrobes so noticed a few of us moved them to bedside tables due to having wedding clothes in there, didn't want the coffee anywhere near the clothes. We had room 1 which is a small double, it was well decorated with lots of nice touches, complimentary water and snacks, good bedding, flat screen TV, coffee machine. Just a few niggles made it sub par, the bathroom used sani-flo so was noisy and smelled the entire stay. Mildew and cracked tiles stood out against the high finish in the bedroom. No shelf in the shower for your products. The dressing table was next to bathroom door so needed to move things or people clear to go in or out of the bathroom. The mattress could do with a refresh. Windows looked onto fire exit route and brick walls so did not open. Had a large AC unit which again needed to be relocated to use it and was not very effective and noisy in a small room overnight. The windows only had blinds which still let in the light of the fire escape after dark so adding to noisy and hot did not make for the best sleep. These things just gave our stay a few little challenges to work around but if the Plough can fix them it would be a wonderful small room. More...
Enjoyed a great lunch sitting outside. Good value but I'm not a big fan of eating from wooden planks! Staff are friendly and welcoming.
We wanted to go for a meal prior to a school reunion however we found it too expensive and just had a couple of pints instead. Nice bar and friendly staff
Good atmosphere and staff although Drinks are quite pricey but of a good quality.
