I offer psychotherapy for individuals and couples and also specialise in treatment for eating disorders for young people and adults. My approach is psycho-analytic which means that the time it takes for a course of therapy may be longer than other counselling approaches and CBT. For many people the reasons for their difficulties need a depth approach where less conscious aspects of early experience can be thoroughly understood and worked through. This is particularly the case in chronic depression and certain types of anxiety where early loss is involved; the same is usually true for alleviating eating disorders and the category of mental illness described as personality disorders.
In working with couples, my focus is both the individual partners and that which they have experienced via their individual experience of life, and, the relationship they create together.
I have a great deal of experience, having qualified in 1986, and also abide by the ethics of the UKCP. in terms of fulfilling continual professional development. My qualifications of a diploma in psychotherapy and a Masters degree in the Psychology of Counselling and Therapy were attained in 1986. I am accredited through UKCP and am a member of BACP.
A consultation is necessary initially so that I have as full a picture as possible of the background to the problems you wish to address. After this, an agreement may be made to meet at the same time each week for sessions over a number of months or years.
