Dr. Matthew M Karangi graduated with Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Theology in both Consolata Institute of Philosophy in Kenya in 1989 and Missionary Institute London, United Kingdom in 1996.
Between 1997 and 2000, he enrolled for a course in Masters of Theology. He served as a lecturer and was later appointed as Dean of studies in the Consolata theological institute of Sao Paulo-Brazil.
While in Brazil, Matthew pioneered a programme Educa-Afro to prepare young people from the shanties of Sao-Paulo to acquire grades for university courses. The programme is still running with good number of students going to the university. Shortly thereafter (2002 to 2005), he studied his PhD at London University in the School of Oriental and African Studies, where he successfully defended his thesis on Gĩkũyũ cosmology of worship with special emphasis on the sacred Mũgumo tree. While at SOAS, Matthew presented seminars on Religion and Politics in Africa, Women and post-colonial hegemony as well as the sacred Mũgumo tree and Gender formation in Kenya. He also presented a paper on the Gĩkũyũ and forced labour in Kenya at the conference (University of Porto-Portugal). Matthew was a lecturer of study of Religions at MIL (Missionary Institute London) between 2000 and 2003. He also served as a Dean of studies for Consolata Missionaries Totteridge Green-London.
Stimulated by a passion for passing on his vast knowledge to the young generations, he decided to study a postgraduate diploma on education majoring in religious education and philosophy, which he successfully completed in 2008. Each year, he attends conferences on Religion, Politics, Leadership and Anthropology in various universities across the UK and abroad. He is currently teaching at John Fisher School Peterborough-UK as second in faculty.
Matthew has served at various leadership capacities in religious, public and teaching institutions in the past decade.
