The most important thing of all is to understand the client's product or service. I ask any questions that help me achieve that.

I think it's very important to have a good understanding of my client's business, services or products so will always make an effort to do that before I start any creative work. If I am working in a market sector I am not familiar with I will research that market, and also find out what my client's competitors are doing. I also believe that a large part of creative work is getting detail right so will spend time testing and checking my work.

Are there any existing graphic materials or style guides that I need to know about?
Who are your competitors and what do you like or dislike about what they do?
What images are available?
Are there any significant deadlines?
Who are the stakeholders in the project? In particular, who signs off?

I enjoy getting to know a client's business and what makes it tick. Particularly in the case of technical or financial products or services, the offer can be complex and I enjoy finding a way to present it clearly and attractively.

I had worked in the corporate sector and employed the services of many design and marketing consultancies so I had a good idea of what the industry needs to deliver to its clients. I also knew it was something I could do. I knew what clients need.

Longbow is a small business but I have a lot of experience. I keep costs low by maintaining the business at a small size and then bringing in specialised skills and services as required. I can thus be very flexible and help both small and large businesses with all manner of marketing projects.
