John Lake Band and Brighton Big Band

I am a jazz pianist of some 50 years experience and offer a range of musical platforms for you as a customer. As a solo pianist I was resident piano player at the Grand Hotel, Brighton for 5 years and now play at a wide number of venues including the Grand Hotel Eastbourne, Horsted Manor for example. My trio formed in 2012 plays a mixture of modern jazz standards, pop tunes and some original numbers and we play regularly at the Grand Hotel in Brighton and at Chapter 12 Wine Bar in Hailsham as well many other venues. That trio often performs with a vocalist and or sax player to add to the unit for bigger occasions. We have also performed alongside poets such as John Harvey, Franklin Reeve, Kadija George, Lee Harwood, Anjan Saha and many more in performances which integrate the art of words with that of jazz.

On a much larger scale I manage a big band called the Brighton Big Band which has been established since 1986 and this band plays the best of the swing era supported by two lovely singers - Jackie Sampson and Dave Williams, providing an Ella and Sinatra evening together or as separate acts. The band has a seasoned mix of professional and semi-professional players and we play regularly on Eastbourne Bandstand, Paviliion Gardens, Brighton and Rottingdean Seafront Terraces as well as major charity gigs with the Rotary Club and the Blind Veterans UK.
