Matt Comfort was recommended to me by Dom at ProTom Fitness - I went to try and resolve running injuries that were just not clearing up sufficiently & were leaving me feeling stagnated and frustrated. I have valued Matt's attentive and holistic approach; within a short space of time my leg has been feeling much improved and I have been able to increase my running again. I feel that I am making forward progress and recommend Comfort Health! More...

He spends time initially working out what matters to you and then tailors each session to ensure you are getting the results you want and need. The treatment rooms are clean and modern. The various members of staff are all welcoming and kind. Booking is easy and all online. It took me a while to find the right physiotherapist in Bristol but I cannot recommend comfort health enough. I've recently started going to Comfort Health - I've had lower back issues, a broken collarbone and knee pain. Within a matter of weeks, they have progressed me from having constant back discomfort to waking up for the first time in 19 months without back pain and being able to last nearly all day without back pain - it's still a work in progress but they have improved things vastly - I''m now also able to almost touch my toes again without back pain. I've been seeing Matt for physiotherapy and sports massages (and had one of the best sports massages I've ever had - literally almost skipped down the road afterwards as it left me completely without discomfort for the first time in over a year and a half). I've also been seeing Jenny for 121 Pilates sessions and the Pilates has totally changed everything for the better - I now have daily exercises/stretches to do which are keeping the back pain away - we'll eventually start working on the knee and shoulder discomfort too. Both Matt & Jenny are really lovely, friendly and super knowledgeable - I've fired loads of questions at both of them and they've always been able to answer everything. Also as an additional bonus they're both really organised and the service provided at Comfort Health has been fantastic - thank you! I feel really confident in their ability to continue to get me back to health and can't recommend them highly enough. More...

I have been attending physiotherapy sessions with Matt at Comfort Health for over two years now. I first saw Matt to assess and treat a very painful shoulder that wasn't getting better with rest. I work as an aerial acrobat and my shoulder has been suffering for the past couple of years as a result of wear and tear from doing such a physical job. He was professional and hands on from the start. I had a thorough initial examination and subsequent treatment that improved my symptoms from the very first session. I have since been having ongoing sessions with Matt every month/couple of months to maintain a good level of fitness in the affected shoulder, and he also gives me good tips on stretching and strengthening the area after every session. I mainly have sports massage but we also had acupuncture treatment when the pain was bad- which I was terrified of! But he was very understanding and managed to turn around my fear of needles. He is also very flexible with bookings as I have a chaotic schedule with work and my little son's nursery hours. I definitely recommend Comfort Health for any physio needs, friendly reception staff and their practice is gorgeous too! More...

Q&As

Comfort Health is a Physiotherapy, Health and Rehabilitation Clinic based in Clifton, Bristol. We have a highly experienced team of professionals in a range of fields allowing you the opportunity to improve your physical, psychological and emotional well-being.

Services

Sports massage is an umbrella term given to the manipulation and stretching of soft tissues in our body. It is used as a treatment method for damaged or stressed muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia.

Whether you are an elite athlete trying to improve your personal best, a recreational sports person with tight muscles, an office worker with tense shoulders or a manual worker with aches and pains, our treatments can be tailored to your every need.

Deep tissue is a type of massage therapy that is used to treat chronic tension and injuries from overuse, such as low back pain, neck pain, tennis elbow etc. Whilst some of the strokes are the same as a Swedish massage, the pace tends to be slower and pressure is applied more strongly, concentrated on problem areas. Practitioners may use their forearms, elbows, fingertips and knuckles as well as their hands in order to break-up adhesions.

The list of conditions that can be effectively treated is extensive and includes whiplash and repetitive strain, postural problems and sciatica, sports injury and recovery from falls, muscle tension or spasm in the glutes, hamstrings, quads, rhomboids, IT band and upper back.

Physiotherapy is the treatment and prevention of injury and disease by natural means. The research evidence shows that physio is providing the answers; the combination of diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation skills enables us to offer patients multi-dimensional approaches to treating conditions and preventing re-injury.

Sports Physiotherapy is a specialist area of Physiotherapy which helps deal with issues and injuries related to sports people.

A sports injury in most cases is different to a normal injury, as they are usually as a result of the higher demands that a sport or exercise puts on the body.

A Sports Physiotherapist is involved in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of such an injury.

Read some of our client testimonials here to see how we’ve helped our Bristol clients get over their sports injuries.

Dry Needling is a western form of “Acupuncture”. It incorporates the insertion of a thin filament needle to stimulate the healing process of soft tissues (muscle, tendons and ligaments). The aim, to improve function and reduce pain by releasing or inactivating trigger points.A trigger point is a taut band of muscle located within a larger muscle group, sometimes tender to touch, and can also radiate pain to other parts of the body.

Physiotherapy Rehabilitation aims to optimise the function and well-being of a patient, and to integrate them back into their chosen activities/sports.

At Comfort Health, our experienced team use a combination of manual therapy techniques and specific, progressive exercise programmes to work towards your goals.

If you are still having some difficulties following an injury, or keep having ongoing problems and need to have a regular, injury specific form of exercise then 1:2:1 pilates or yoga at Comfort Health could be the answer.

Myofascial decompression (MFD), also known as cupping or cupping therapy, is an ancient eastern method of healing that has recently grown in popularity in the west due to its benefits on one’s physical state.

Plastic or silicone suction cups are used to create a negative pressure between the layers of tissues in an affected area on the body. This then draws lots of blood that is rich in nutrients to the affected area and promotes quicker healing.

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (EWST) is a modern, highly effective treatment for soft tissue injuries. It is a clinically proven method used by Physiotherapists for treating chronic tendon problems. It works by delivering impulses of energy, targeted to specific damaged tissues within an abnormal tendon. These impulses of energy (shocks) increase blood flow within the affected area, stimulating cell regeneration and healing, and decreasing local factors which can cause pain.

It is a highly effective treatment for patients with:

– Plantar Fasciitis
– Achilles Tendinopathy
– Patellar Tendinopathy
– Tennis or Golfers Elbow
– Hip Pain
– Shin Splints
– Shoulder Impingement
– Bursitis and Calcific Tendinitis

Swedish-style massage involves long, soft, kneading strokes to relax and reduce tension from the deepest muscles of your body. These techniques can be combined with joint movement to relax, energise, and heal your joints and muscles, creating a calming and balancing effect. Usually, a Swedish massage will last for 60–90 minutes.

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils for certain benefits. These aromas are all plant based derivatives from herbs, tree extracts, and flowers, to complement the massage treatment. The overall purpose of aromatherapy is meant to improve your physical and mental well-being. A personal blend will be made up right there in the room with the client, tailored to suit their individual requirements and preferences.

A pregnancy massage – also known as pre-natal massage – is a more gentle and soothing massage that has been customised for expectant mothers. Pregnancy massage can be used as a treatment to reduce muscle tension built up during pregnancy, relieve sore backs and hips, help reduce stress and improve overall well-being, during this special time of physical and emotional change.

A hot stone massage may begin with normal massage technique to prepare your muscles. Your massage therapist will then place the heated stones on key acupressure points on your body, the warm volcanic stones help to relax your muscles, allowing deeper pressure to be applied during the massage.

Facial Rejuvenation Massage, also known as ‘Natural Facelift Massage’ is a deeply relaxing, holistic treatment that focuses on the face, neck and head. The treatment promotes healthier facial muscles and can minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It does this by relaxing the facial muscles because when tensed they cause lines and wrinkles. The benefits of this treatment also extend out from the face into the whole body and you will feel relaxed from top to toe.
