Jean-Luc and all the teachers at San Diego Circus Center are amazing. My journey of handstands started 4 or 5 years ago through friends introducing me to head coach and owner Jean-Luc Martin. He was honest and upfront about training and how to create change in my body, in the last 2 years I have fully committed to his school and have seen changes physically that I never would have dreamed. I’ve been performing now at a higher level on not only my hands but in aerial straps, cyr wheel, partner acrobatics/hand to hand. The school is much more than just a gym, it’s truly a family. If you have any wish to experience handstands, aerial, or any circus development then this is the place to check out. The kid classes are a blast for kids of all ages and the summer camps are incredible for not just the kids but families to watch what their little ones are capable of. I love this place! I can't recommend the San Diego Circus Center enough! The facility is great and the teachers are wonderful! Especially Jean-Luc Martin who has an amazing coaches eye! He will look at you and your body's potential, and he will help you go further than you imagined. He will help you get better but will work with what your body is capable of instead of pointing everyone down the same path. Expect to work hard. All the classes even the flexibility ones are serious. But every teacher there is happy to work with where you are. I cannot wait to go back and train more! More...

My daughter has been taking classes at this facility for about 2 years. The ownership is not only highly skilled and professional, but they take a personal interest in the goals of the individuals who participate in their program. We have been particularly impressed with the emphasis on safety. Our daughter has not only grown as a performer and an athlete, but she has grown as an individual as well through perseverance. My 8 yr old came from a gymnastics background but didn't want to compete so I got in touch with Jean-Luc and she was accepted half way into an intensive class. Needless to say- she LOVES IT. The instructors are all patient and kind (especially with her being brand new to this!) and they have a strong sense of community there- that you feel welcome to join! My 3 daughters began taking beginners classes at SDCC May 2014 at ages 10, 8 & 8 for fun after enjoying a birthday party at the SDCC. Having had no prior instruction in ballet, gymnastics nor dance they started w/ Kelsey's Youth Circus class twice a week, then added her Youth Duo Trapeze class once a week. Within 9 months they were invited to join the Youth Intensive Program (coached by Kelsey & Isaac) and were in 2 mini performances within a year.... now 17 months later they were honored to perform with "the big girls" at the La Jolla Art Festival thanks to coaching from Isaac, Callie, Julia). Due to the positive encouragement coaching style of Jean-Luc my girls admire & respect all of their amazingly talented & kind Coaches. As a bonus my girls are all making straight A's because they must finish homework, studying for tests, & reading before Circus Lessons which is more motivation I could have ever hoped for. These girls refuse to miss a Circus Class & strive to be on time. The SDCC is a family owned business & have made our little family a part of their giant family & for that I am truly grateful. I just experienced a FANTASTIC handstand class at San Diego Circus Center- I touched more stacked moments then ever before, a cloud of epiphanies in my head and body, I noted the points on the continuum in which I see progress and also potential. I had the pleasure of photographing the Holiday Show "Grinch That Stole Circus" at the San Diego Circus Center last month. It was an amazing show and rich in amazing photographic opportunities because the performances were spectacular including aerial silks and hoops, gymnastic, tightrope and much much more. This was a student show but it looked and felt professional in every way. I'm a huge Cirque du Soleil fan and I wouldn't be surprised to see these performers on a Las Vegas stage some day. The show included students of every age, from very young to adults and it was obvious that their finely tuned skill levels reflected the skill of the instructors at this Circus Center. I first visited the San Diego Circus Center in January of this year during my winter break. I am a gymnastics and acrobatics performer from Maryland and I was looking for a reputable place to train circus arts. I found the SDCC online and was impressed with the classes and teachers available. I called the SDCC in November when planning my trip and Jean-Luc was very open to my visit and helped create a schedule for me. When I arrived, everyone was very welcoming (both staff and fellow students)! The class sizes were small and therefore I received a lot of personal attention. I’ve been to other facilities where the instructors are not very personal and the students are viewed more as customers; the SDCC was nothing like this. I felt like part of the circus family! The instructors seemed keen to learn about me and adjusted the classes to my abilities and experience. In just two weeks, I learned an incredible amount. I picked up new skills and could see a change in my body with increased flexibility and strength. Before I left to go back home to Maryland, I had already scheduled my next visit for during my spring break! I couldn’t wait to get back to the circus center. The pricing is very reasonable, especially with the high quality you get! I would highly recommend the SDCC to anyone looking for a new hobby, looking to gain strength and flexibility, or looking to go into professional performance.
