Patrician Finishes

We contacted Patrician Finishes to paint our kitchen cabinets. John Hasty and his crew did a beautiful job of prep, sealing, priming, and double color coating the builtin boxes. The final finish is so smooth it is hard to belief that it was brushed instead of sprayed. They removed all the drawers and doors and spray painted  them at their shop and the finish is just perfect. We were also pleased with the scheduling of the job as we agreed on a start date and John called the morning of that date and said his crew would be on the job the next morning and check with us on the color matching, which was right on. We have received so many compliments about our remodeled kitchen cabinets we are so glad that Patrician Finishes was our painter. Thank you John and your dedicated crew of professionals. More...

John and his crew painted the exterior of our home in August 2014.  They did an amazing job.  Prep is so important and they took their time and really made sure all the prep was done correctly, every detail taken care of. They were professional, quiet and neat. The job site was picked up and cleaned everyday.John helped us pick a color that was right for us and he was very patient as we went through the process. John and his team did a great job and showed tremendous integrity in restoring my garage door. The door faces south, and the finish had turned cloudy from years of intense sun exposure. John initially restored the door with a procedure intended to save me the cost of fully stripping the old stain. However, after we found that the initial damage was worse than thought and that the door was starting to discolor again after several months, John volunteered to strip the old stain completely and refinish the door at no additional cost. It was great to work with someone who took so much pride in his work that he would fully stand behind his work and make sure that the job was done to the highest standards, even at significant added cost to himself. We now have a garage door with a beautiful finish that looks far better than it did on the day it was originally installed!I will be sure to call John for any future wood refinishing needs. More...

I worked with John Hasty to do some work at one of my clients' office in Menlo Park. I am not from the area and on a tight schedule with traveling onsite. John was very accommodating with the short time I had in Menlo Park. He helped to sand, patch, and paint whiteboard paint on a very large wall and also did some miscellaneous sanding, patching, and painting in other areas. If you are someone who cares about the details, the perfect edges, and the tricky corners, these are the painters for you. John Hasty and his crew recently refinished our wood deck.  It looks amazing.  They meticulously prepped and painted the whole thing, steps, lattice, and all.  They stayed on our job until the job was through, cleaned up each day, and were very courteous and professional.   I decided to work with John because he had rave reviews from many people I know who had worked with him.    A deck isn't "patrician" at all, but he was happy to help us out.  Well, thank goodness!  I hadn't realized how important it was to hire a really detail-oriented painter for our deck - it is a deck, after all - until I saw the final product.  Now I get it.And, don't let the name fool you.  While a large portion of their work is artistic, they will also do more conventional projects (like decks). John Hasty & Patrician Finishes are top-notch.  Our double front doors had serious sun damage but the first two contractors who looked at them passed on the job due to the intricate finish. John provided a reasonable quote and was very clear on what to expect of him and his crew. They were extremely conscientious, arrived on time and cleaned up at the end of every day as if they had never been there. We just had the exterior of our two-story home in Palo Alto repainted by Patrician Finishes.  It was a pleasure working with John Hasty and his crew.  They showed up as promised, power washed and prepped the house. Then did a fine job of masking all the windows and hardware before painting the house.  The final effect looks great--all at a fair price.John is a real pro who is a color expert.  He did a great job of color matching the paint for us since we didn't have any records of what the original paint color was.  He repaired our balcony by re-cutting the gaps between the boards for drainage, then stained them. He is also a friendly and honest guy.  When I told him that I had overpaid him by not deducting our deposit from the final payment, he promptly issued me a refund check for the deposit amount. Over time we have used many painters for both interior and exterior painting of our homes.  We have experienced many different types and qualities of painting professionals during this time. I am writing this review only because I hope to save others from some of the nightmares we have endured prior to meeting John Hasty of Patrician Finishes.  John was recommended to us by a builder who had remodeled our home. At the time of the remodel, we used the painter recommended by the decorator who was involved in the project. He was okay but just okay.  Time passed and we needed painting and asked the builder for a name.  From that moment on, we have only used Patrician Finishes!  John is just what you would want in a painter--he knows his stuff and is a good consultant on colors and all painting options. He and his crew are reliable and dependable and all-around quality people.  They show up on time. They are pleasant to have around. They CLEAN up after themselves, DAILY.  The price is competitive -- you truly get what you pay for and then some!! John is patient with the client who may need some time to decide what colors she really wants on the walls--sometimes it can take some time to figure it all out!  So please save yourself time and aggravation and go directly to Patrician Finishes for your painting!!! Two years after completion, all of our interior doors are as beautiful as the day John and his crew finished them.  Also, John had recommended that we maintain the garage door every 6-12 months.  We anticipated having to perform the maintenance (sand and reapply the protective layer) at least every 6 months due to the heavy sun exposure and were more than happy to do so in order to retain the beauty of the finished product.  As it turns out, we've only had to maintain it once so far and it's still beautiful.  Thanks for the great work, John, as well as the use of superb products! When we bought our home five years ago, we splurged on a new, very expensive front door with a special finish that looked like wood grain.  Five years later, the finish was failing and I was worried that water would  damage our investment.We called out several painters for an estimate.  One told us that the door couldn't be refinished, but would need to be painted (?!?) black!  Fortunately, my husband called John of Patrician Finishes.  He did a lovely job of refinishing the door.  He was able to save the original finish and coat it with a coating that would protect it from the elements.  It looks terrific - much better than black paint.  As good as new.He also helped us with restoring an antique table and repainting our ceiling.John is delightful, intelligent, responsive and prompt.  Thank goodness for Yelp that we found him. After learning the hard way too many times, I now know a good paint job is worth ever penny.  My house had been painted several times before by other outfits that gave a good pitch, but then did a shoddy job in the end.  John Hasty at Patrician Finishes is a master at what  he does.  He and his team spent the necessary extra time to prep each nook and cranny, and then used top quality materials and paint to make sure that everything would last.   In addition, John is an expert at helping select just the right colors.  I would recommend these guys to anyone.
