Please click on our Bark reviews and photos. If you're a "Boomer", we're your DJ entertainment! If your event will include guests whose ages are mostly under 40, we’re probably not a good fit. Or, if your group prefers mostly current Pop, Chart, Rap, EDM, Trance . . . that's not us. BUT....If your group has folks of all ages, or is generally over 50 - especially Boomers - then we have a very good fit. Earth, Wind and Fire, Four Tops, Elvis, Bill Haley, Bee Gees, Bruno, Black Eyed Peas.... As Boomers ourselves, we've already got a pretty good idea of what your guests might like to hear; Captain Dave was a DJ in the 70's and 80's. We can help with your "Order of Events" event schedule, (and keep you on schedule during your party) design your own personal playlist, and take requests during your special event. Whether it's your holiday office party, wedding, a high school or college reunion, fundraiser, corporate or community event. Any special party that needs a diversity of music genres. Captain Dave's Classic Rock and Dance boasts a HUGE music library from Big Band to Bruno Mars; music for grandparents to grandkids. Plus your playlist and requests during your event! Big Band, Sinatra, Country, Beach/Shag, Line Dancing (Pop and Country) Rock, Motown, Disco, Classic Rock, Buffett, Reggae, Dance, Oldies, Southern Rock, much more. Excellent mic and MC skills. Raised in Fairfax County, Captain Dave can travel from Hampton Roads, VA, where he and "Admiral Kathy" currently live on their sailboat, "Knee Deep", to Northern VA. Captain Dave went to Langley High school in Mclean. Class of 73. His Mom is still living in McLean, in the same house he was raised in! The standard service includes two 300 watt speakers, mixer, on site back up system, dance floor lights, up lighting, wireless mics. Sub woofer available for larger groups. For some smaller groups that don't require a microphone provided by Captain Dave, and really just need some nice background or sing along music, we have a couple of powerful Bluetooth tower speakers that can provide just the right musical ambiance and volume. Very small space required, and five minute set up time. Your venue might already have a microphone system. Less expensive than full sound system. Carefully monitored music volume allows folks to carry on normal conversations while tapping their toes! The key to a great event is the ability of your DJ to match the mix and mood of your guests. So a great DJ should be able to read the “energy” or mood of your attendees. If the DJ is inexperienced, young, or has a limited library, he or she may not even have or know what they like! And the music is WAYY too loud. For groups that are older, you have to know your 60’s, 70’s and 80’s great songs. I lived it.
My style is creating an atmosphere that reflects the personalized choices of my clients. My style is YOUR style. However, if your group is looking for current music, Rap, Metal, etc, I'm not your best choice. Typically, I'll provide a mix of quiet background music for the early portion of the event, and build to the dancing portion of the event. Monitoring music volume is especially important for older groups.
I love watching a full dance floor. I love creating a memorable event for my clients. Whether it s a private event, or at at a restaurant or bar.
I love it when someone comes up to me and tells me a quick story they were reminded of because of a particular song I played. For many folks, music IS the soundtrack of their lives.
It was just kinda a natural progression. Was listening to my AM transistor radio in the 60’s. Comedy sketches in high school in the early 70’s. College radio at JMU in the 70’s. Then a friend asked me to do some DJ work in a local bar. Using cassettes! From there, I bought my first sound system, with two turn tables. 45’s and LP’s. Created “EarCandy Music” At one point, I had 3 complete record libraries, and two other jocks working for me. That was in Harrisonburg VA. Later moves back to Northern VA, where I continued to “spin records” for Nards, Great Golden Aces, Lyric. As well as my own private gigs.
Bottom line for us, We love to watch people of all ages having a great time.
Honestly, if your event includes primarily guests who are in their 40's and younger, we’re not the entertainment you want. But, if you have a mix of ages, especially Boomers, and require excellent Master of Ceremony ability, then please give us a call.
