I’ve now been a student at yamm Barnsley for around 18 months, It’s been a long time ambition to learn the electric guitar, nothing unusual about that you might think, we’ll I’m in my late 50s and thought maybe I’d missed my chance , but I decided to give it a go , so I looked on the internet for a local music school, I chose yamm, and a great choice it was , they are in a central location close to town centre , they have very modern private music rooms with modern equipment to teach whatever level you want to achieve, Liam and Tom both put me at ease when a first started, and have loads of patience, There rates are very reasonable considering the service they offer , There is also free on site parking. My 10 year old has been having weekly lessons since October '21 and thoroughly enjoys each lesson. His confidence has continuously grown thanks to the support of his tutor, Tom. My daughter had been attending this music school for 3 years now and she started when she was 7. Nothing is too much trouble. Tom is an excellent tutor, if my daughter is struggling he will simplify the song she is learning for her. They adapted well when covid hit and put music lessons online which we still sometimes do if things crop up. Tom can switch to online learning if needed to at short notice if something gets in the way of physical lessons so my daughter does not miss out. All very friendly tutors and a lovely music school! Would normally wait before posting a review but I'm that impressed after yesterday's lesson and the already very noticeable results may aswell post now. After stalling very early on with pre recorded online guitar lessons I found these guys, after I registered my interest got a phone call the following day which felt like they were genuinely interested in helping me not just trying to fill a slot. From walking through the door to friendly welcoming faces to a very beginner friendly lesson with Livi I can't speak highly enough of the experience, I've gone from barely been able to play 2 chords consistently to been able to play a short riff for 1 song and 3chords for another and after a couple of hrs broken practice at home following and listening to what I was told can play them to a level they can recognised even if still slow and steady and that's after 1 (yes 1) half hr lesson. From the verge of quitting and using the guitar as firewood I'm now genuinely excited about where this journey will take me and how much these lessons will teach and challenge me. Took my daughter to liam and the lads a yamm for over 3 years until sadly my daughter wanted to concentrate on her dancing hobby rather than her love for music . She is a fantastic little guitar player that i envy as i dont av to time to give the lesson a try myself. What inspired you to start your own business?
We all love teaching music and are passionate musicians. We started teaching to pass on our love for music and to inspire the next generation of talented musicians who love their instrument.
Why should our clients choose you?
Here at the Yorkshire Academy of Modern Music we offer lessons for all ages and abilities from beginners through to the professionals. We have a fun relaxed approach to teaching whilst maintaining very informative and professional tuition. We are exceptionally passionate and pride ourselves on our lessons being personalised to each individual student’s needs, ensuring each individual takes their playing in the direction that they wish, no matter what age or ability.
Our tutors have a range of qualifications including various music degrees, grade 8 certification of their instrument as well as many years of invaluable playing experience.
Lessons are often based around learning songs which introduce different playing techniques, and help progression in a developmental way. If we don’t know the song you want to learn we can transcribe the song by ear so most student requests are catered for.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
We provide online lessons via zoom, although we try to avoid this as much as possible as we see more value in a face-to-face lesson. If our students cannot make their lesson due to weather conditions and other factors we regularly offer the lesson via zoom to avoid the late cancellation fee.
