This is a wonderful place - I was delighted when it opened and I'm still ecstatic now! The staff really know their products and give a personal service (how much more personal does it get than going out into their back yard and lifting the fence between their property and mine, to deliver? ) Their events are always great fun too. I love the tastings, and there's also a BYOB social - bring your own baby - for the parents who are usually stuck at home! If there's any problem with this shop it's that I always end up buying more than I intended but that's not really a hardship! More...

Rarely is it such a pleasure to shop - the knowledgeable staff can elicit info to get the right wine for you, or direct you to try something that you will enjoy. They have a great range and have helped me track down and try a range of sherries. They even had the best sherry vinegar on the planet (Lustau) which kept us happy for ages. Not pretentious, just focussed on doing the right thing to please the discerning wine drinker. More...

The Greenwich store is fantastic. Good selection of interesting wines and the guys are always happy to help. I've noticed there's a reference to the place being pretentious below and I strongly disagree. If you want to go into detail or ask for general tips the guys are happy to do so, but in my experience they've also been great for providing quick recommendations as well (e.g. what do you recommend for £10/15/20, or I'm cooking (dish) what would you recommend?).It's definitely been the best wine shop I've been to and I'm very happy it's here! Theatre of wine may look like a typical wine store but there's a slightly different take on the idea here. You're unlikely to find a wine that you could buy easily elsewhere in London here and every wine has an interesting story. Much of the time that story is about value and how this wine is essentially the same as some very expensive cousin but it made just over the region boundary, or they have some special relationship with the producer. There are also quite a few bottles here that you cannot buy anywhere else.Ask about the wine and try what they have out, you may we'll find a treasure that keeps you coming back for more, I did. This is the 3rd shop from Theatre of Wine, a great addition to the High Street.  The wine selection is pretty amazing, and they also have a fair selection of craft beers so worth popping in to look at those too. There's plenty of room here for the wine tastings that they hold, and the staff are really friendly and knowledgeable. When I was there the chap said they were considering what else they might expand into, cheese, coffee maybe, definitely an exciting new business to have in the area. After moving to the area I was initially a bit dismayed at how all the local shops were a bit, well, downmarket. For booze in particular the only thing on offer around Tufnell Park seemed to be a particularly small Sainsbury's Local, which doesn't sell anything I want to drink. Then I discovered Theatre of Wine, which (obvious exceptions like Berry Brothers aside) almost immediately became my favourite wine shop in London. They have a fascinatingly eclectic selection of wines, spirits and other drinks, and very knowledgeable staff who clearly enjoy talking about the subject. More...

A lovely wine and beer shop with an excellent eclectic of both on offer. I visited for the first time tonight and was warmly received with a tasting of a couple of bottles of red that had been opened. It is always reassuring when the proprietors are willing to let you try before you buy!The wine is arranged by style, making a welcome change from the traditional regional format. This encourages you to move away from tried and tested favourites and into something new. I found a couple of interesting bottles to take home with plenty of others left on the shelves. The beer is hidden around the corner in the shop and appears to be a fast moving regularly changing selection from both the breweries that are nearby (Meantime and Hop Stuff) and those from further afield. Again a selection now sits in the fridge. All of the above points to a good shop. What made it excellent for me was the service. Friendly, informed and engaging - I can't wait to go back already. This is a little gem of a shop. Yes, it is a wine merchant, they seem to be very passionate about it, hand written labels with descriptions for every single bottle, it looks amazing, but there was another reason for coming here and that was for their beer selection, rare craft from all over the world, a superb selection.  Staff are very helpful in finding what's best for your taste buds. They also hold beer and wine tasting evening, I will be looking out for those. Well worth a visit when in the Greenwich area. More...

Shopping at Theatre of Wine is a genuinely rewarding experience. Whether you're looking for a £6 pizza wine, a £15 dinner party wine, or something even finer for a special occasion, their knowledgeable yet refreshingly unassuming staff will be on hand to pick out the perfect bottle. Mid-week tastings are great fun, showcasing everything from the obscure to the extravagant, and pairing them all with delicious treats from a nearby deli; it's not hard to see why tickets are in such high demand. If there is a better wine shop in London, I have yet to find it. More...
