The food was unbelievable, everyone at our table loved everything. Even the grumpy owner couldn't make this less than a 5. I think this is the best pub food in the region and its always quiet for some reason. Definitely swing by before it closes! More...

We’ve been visiting the Ship Inn for many years for Sunday lunch when we visit relatives and have always had good food and great service ; everything cooked freshly by Sheila. We were visiting again recently for a surprise birthday party and needed somewhere to stay. The converted buildings at the rear of the Ship are ideal for a lovely stay on the ‘fantastic’ northeast coast (I’m biased as a local who moved away long ago) the views across to the coast are something special and coupled with a comfy room, north east hospitality and Shiela’s great breakfast we didn’t need anything more. Thank you Shiela and Peter hope to see you again soon. More...

We were looking for a dog friendly pub. Came across the ship inn by chance. It has a doggy bar at the back of the pub. It's not a warm feel in there but a lovely idea so that your dog can still be part of the family. The pub itself is very oldy worldy. The food is home made and was really delicious. The portions are right depending on how greedy you are. If you like a big portion and to be stuffed full when you leave you may find them a bit small. The landlord is friendly and welcoming and does like a chat. The other staff were very polite and gave good service. Thumbs up!! More...

What a find! Stumbled across this wonderful pub while walking our dog. We recommend the Doggy Bar area with its cosy log burner to enjoy a beverage. From the menu, Sheila’s curry is a must and great to see Double Maxim on tap. On top of this, Peter and his wife are owners of the utmost integrity and geniality. See you soon! More...

Really happy with our experience here and did not even realise that this pub was here. Was served by a lovely lady who was polite and bubbly. There was a great selection of drinks available and the its in a really nice area and surroundings. I believe they also serve food which is great! Would defiantly recommend if your looking for a nice old traditional place for a pint. Like I say we never knew you were here but will definitely be back. More...

Decided to book a night here at the ship while working in Seal Sands. At checking in I was greeted by Sheila who showed me to my room "The Victory ". Room was perfect and catered for all of my needs (except for the wifi). ||The vest was yet to come.||The bar is an amazing place with quality real ales. Peter was cleaning the pumps while I sat at the bar and was explaining what makes a good, clean line. For dinner I had the sausage and mash. I must say at this point that it was probably the best I'd had (sorry nan). ||Most of the regulars left which left me and Peter at the bar chatting away. I could if stayed alright as the ale was going down too easy but it was a school night so I made my excuses and retired to my room.||Breakfast isn't normally until 07.30 so I asked for a toastie. Peter went one better and said he'd have my breakfast ready for 7am. I couldn't of asked for more. Another chat in the morning and I was good to go.||I know we all have opinions but this place really was top drawer. ||Thanks Sheila and Peter. More...

Surprisingly good Sunday lunch. Good service, reasonably priced. Well cooked and plentiful vegetables, though I'm not sure about including mushy peas, nice meat and enough gravy to sink a ship! !! Best bit though...finding somewhere that does a very good Yorkshire pudding. Well done! More...

We found a gem in High Hesledon today! What a lovely place. Such friendly staff! Peter and Shelley blatantly enjoy what they do. Our food was absolutely delicious! The restaurant menu was interesting and exciting. Cooked to order and to perfection! Peter knows his ales and my recommended went a treat. Nothing was too much trouble and the service was excellent and with a smile! Having commended Shelley on her home-made mint sauce, I suggested she sell it separately to customers as it was so good! The friendly atmosphere made the entire experience a treat and we shall definitely return soon and highly recommend to all! More...
