Function was recommended by friends and what a night! Arrived and greeted by staff in the foyer, pre drinks at the bar with a bright young girl serving us before sitting down for our meal. Portion size was great and the quality was just out of this world. Nice spacing on the table layout with fantastic festive decoration. Waiting staff were very professional and efficient with the events manager (I think was Leon) engaging in conversation for our christmas plans and general talks which was lovely to see interaction. Then the show.. fantastic and funny from start to finish. Catwalk down the middle felt the performers used the space well. Compliments to the chef for the meal, professional and friendly staff. My husband loved being included in the show as he was sat on, A truly feel good night for us and would return again. More...

We booked on the evening after attending a function. Very reasonable price per night for an en-suite room with plenty of space in room. Bar drinks are reasonably priced for a hotel as wine list was extensive and of good quality. ||||We stayed for breakfast which was either a continental style or full english. The dining area was quite and relaxed with no pressure to leave once finished with a high standard of food. More...

Sadly we were here for a wake. Saying that the buffet that was served was beyond exceptional. It is a very old building, but with a little bit of modern in it. They have done their best to keep its original feel & done a great job in doing so.. certainly a place with visiting if your in the area , even if it's for afternoon tea or a meal. More...

Have stayed here many many times so we know what to expect. Our double room was one those that has been modernised so we feel satisfied that it is clean and tidy yet still has some of the old charm. Saturday evening Dinner in the main restaurant was a not up to the usual standard - rather scant portion of smoked salmon and a very overcooked sirloin steak. Otherwise all very nice. More...

This is our third stay at the Orwell over the past 18 months and staff have always been friendly and attentive and food and beverages good. The size of the fish with the fish and chips is HUGE tho so beware! The recent facelift is very welcoming and having seen before and after bedrooms, are impressed with the lux touches and colour scheme (simple but effective). This will remain a return annual trip in future for a fab girlie weekend away. More...

I've stayed here multiple times in the past for work, as my employers at the time had an account with the hotel. ||||It is situated in a great area of Felixstowe, close to shops, pubs and a short walk from the beach. The hotel has regular evening entertainment at weekends and often has event evenings, such as Christmas meals, NYE occasions etc. ||||The decor is very traditionally British, such as wingback chairs, oil paintings etc. However, it does need a lick of paint here and there, and could probably use a much needed facelift throughout, to make it more universally appealing and modern.||||The rooms follow the same suit, despite being clean. It does come across as a little tired and shabby in places.||||The staff have always been superb, friendly and a joy to be around, and the food is absolutely superb. I've never had a bad meal here, be it breakfast or evening meal it never disappoints. ||||In truth, because of the quiet nature and the quality of food, I used to enjoy my stays here whenever I was asked to stay over. Listening to other guests at breakfast it would be best advisable to book better than standard accomadation to enjoy your stay. The hotel has great character and this must be taken into consideration when staying here. The room was comfortable with tea and coffee plus complimentary water. The bed was a little hard for my liking but they may not be all the same. I paid extra for breakfast which was adequate although I have had better. The breakfast is buffet style which is proberably why the food was only just warm. All in all when coming back to the area I would not hesitate in booking again. More...

The property is old and has a lot of features. It was a year ago when I stopped there last and they were measuring up for new carpet which quite clearly did not happen. The menu was not great in either bar or restaurant and very expensive. I can see why not many people were using it when before it was packed. The staff as usual were brilliant. I had a noisy room above the kitchen and was moved very quick. Thank You. Over all the value is brilliant. We will be back More...

My wife and I spent one warm night at the Orwell Hotel last month (July 2019), and thoroughly enjoyed it. We paid extra for a ‘Superior Double,’ which provided us with a large, newly refurbished, room in the old part of the hotel. (Right front corner, second floor). I think the bed was brand new and was, without doubt, the most comfortable bed we’ve ever slept in. The Orwell is one of those wonderful old Victorian Hotels with a grand staircase, large function rooms and a splendid dinning hall which served up the best breakfast I’ve eaten this year. All in, great value at £91, including breakfast. If I had to criticise anything about the place though, it would be the woman’s voice in the lift which was far too loud. Other than that, it was great and far exceeded our expectations. More...
