On arrival we were made to feel so welcome with our family of six and border terrier. We had the most amazing Sunday roast lunch ever, beautiful setting, very tasteful christmas decorations. The owners of The Old Mill House are so dedicated and accomodating they deserve to do well with all the hard work they put into their business. We very highly recommend The Old Mill House. More...

This was my birthday treat, we stayed for 3 nights. Its a beautiful old building run by a wonderful family and it is more of a hotel than B&B. Situated next to a picturesque river with a lovely garden. Attention to detail is everywhere. In our very comfortable room we had all the usual facilities you would expect but then we had the addition of a box of things you might have forgotten which includes razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, even reading glasses, next to the fridge was a tiny cut glass decanter of sherry and two pretty glasses, this is refilled daily.||||In the bistro which you need to book there are also reading glasses on each table in case you have forgotten yours. We ate at Rick Stein's Seafood restaurant for my birthday, but the next night we sampled the bistro and sorry Rick but Adams food is far superior both in imagination and flavor and at a fraction of the price. We will be going again in the summer and will eat in every night. Breakfast is also in the bistro and is also superb.||||If you like churches there a beautiful 13th century church opposite with wonderful stained glass windows and painted ceilings and screens. Its kept locked but you only have to ask as the family hold a key and are happy to show you round.||||Wonderful place to stay, gets my highest recommendation. More...

The house is beautiful and the garden an impressive piece of work. It was really a pleasure to be able to spend one night here - the room was right at the entrance and we had our own private table outside and lots of privacy. The room and bathroom were very clean. I wished we had more time but we had to catch an early ferry in Picton the following day. Because we could not be at breakfast, the hosts packed us a breakfast to go which was so nice and helpful while waiting to board to ferry. Strongly recommended! More...

Delightful small mill house hotel and restaurant. Only drawback is the parking lot is across a busy road so I cannot in good consciousness advise this hotel for families with small children or pets who could easily get away. Additionally, the qualities that make this hotel special may not lead themselves to anyone who may be claustrophobic or not careful around small turns and small rooms. On the positive side, I have never experienced a more serene and quiet sleep. This hotel recently added more rooms so they are still ironing out small kinks like heating with the new radiators but the showers had sufficient hot water and the beds were very comfortable.||Dinner and breakfast were exquisite. Everything was locally sourced and prepared fresh for each meal. Delicious. Simply delicious. I only wish the chef had made an appearance so we could complement her on her wonderful preparations. This is a beautiful little hotel with very pretty garden alongside a stream. It is situated next to a road that is quite busy during the day but that didn't affect our enjoyment because the garden is set away from the road and our room overlooked the garden. Our room was spotless, in traditional style and over looked the water mill wheel in the garden. The bed was comfortable and ensuite was clean and bright with ample toiletries although the shower is electric and therefore a little fiddly to get the temperature right. Tea, coffee & fruit infusions with biscuits & even a mini decanter of sherry (enough for two glasses) were provided. We were also given fresh milk in a glass bottle to put in the fridge for our coffee/tea (that was also handy for the pasty we hadn't eaten that day). We didn't experience any noise issues that other guests have reported so maybe the hotel wasn't as full as usual? ||||The hotel is in a small village with no pubs nearby but the hotel serves drinks downstairs and we were lucky enough to have great weather so made the most it by sitting in the swing chairs next to the stream while having drinks. The hotel is a couple of miles outside Padstow so we booked to eat at the in-house bistro (you need to book ahead as it gets full). The dinner was generally of good quality - great fish - and we enjoyed a particularly good bottle of local Cornish wine with our meal. The only downside was the pasta that had been lovingly made by hand but then overcooked in spite of us having specifically requested pasta al dente. Dessert was a delicious Affogato topped with one of the best espressos I have had (and there was enough to both pour over the dessert and drink). Breakfast was outstanding! A buffet of varied fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, toast and conserves (homemade locally) and an incredible cooked breakfast menu that you select the night before (but we were informed that you could let them know the following morning if you have changed your mind). We chose the eggs florentine and eggs royale - each came with a mini pot of Hollandaise sauce that was light as a feather. ||||The owners have only been here for 5 years and were completely new to the business so have done a terrific job in turning this little hotel around. Both they and their staff are fantastic: very friendly and helpful. Even their rescue dog - a handsome, deep russet labrador - lent charm to the place as he wandered around the garden wagging his big, powerful tail. More...

The attention to detail is great - even to having a small decanter of sherry in the room each day. The food is very good, and the breakfast has a great range of choices.
