Had a truly brilliant day at Spice Monkey with Nikita & Mrs G. If you are wanting to learn about the intricacies of Indian cooking then I can't think there's a better way to do it! The day was structured really nicely - an amazing journey through from the raw ingredients through to the finished dishes. The step by step approach makes it easier to replicate which I managed to do with great success. Cannot wait to return for another course! Wishing Nikita & Mrs G all the very best! More...

What a fun, informative day. Nikita & Mrs G were amazing!
Nikita is a fantastic teacher who explains about the ingredients in a way even a novice cook like myself can understand. Mrs G is adorable , she served a wonderful homemade snack to get us in the mood for the day ahead.
There was follow up email with all the details of the day and recipes.
Loved it! and food was delicious .

A wonderful day with Nik and his team - learnt so much... and best of all, cooked the dishes again at home and they still tasted great. Job done Mr G!

Really enjoyed learning new spices and dishes from scratch. Felt like due time was invested in going over the basics, flavours that have made me feel genuinely excited about exploring new dishes again. Ditch the takeout, Cook-it-yourself.
Thanks for a great day, the food we cooked with Nikita was beyond delicious. Not to mention Mrs. G's lunch treat mmhmmm.

What a lovely day, led by the superb Nik. Really had fun, learnt a lot and it's all worth it as I can directly benefit by cooking some lovely Indian food! I couldn't recommend Spice Monkey enough if you want to get to learn a lot about composition of food and how to make certain blends and mixes. A great grounding in knowledge, will definitely be back for the next course at some point! More...

LOVED OUR ADVANCED COOKERY CLASS EXPERIENCE!!

We booked this class with Nikita and Mrs. G months ago when planning a trip to London. We were joined by some wonderful people that booked locally and we had an amazing and informative time taking the advanced class. We tasted individual spices, made our own garam masala, the experience was immersive and we will take skills learned here to our home kitchen for some incredible meals.

Couple of tips:
1.) If you are thinking about making this a huge or a great time out... DO IT!
2.) If you take the tube from London, the class is another 15minute walk or so residential so an Uber ride was quick and easy.
3.) We were able to buy one of the spice tins what we used in class, and there are a few things available to get that might help in your home kitchen.
4.) I took pictures, and I'm confident the written recipes will be well documented when we get them, but I would have taken a few written notes had I brought a small notebook since there is so much information shared.

Bonus insider tips from just our class: ;)
5.) congratulate Nikita on his great health and life
6.) if you eat with a fork, try switching hands. It's fun
7.) if you are too scared to flip the bread on the open flame with your hands you can use Mrs G or tongs
8.) smuggle some curry leaves in from India as a gift for the hosts
9.) scratch down the usual suspects for the pop quiz

Have a great time, you won't regret it!

A very original and rewarding afternoon spent in the genial company of Nikita and his team. Very highly recommended for novices (like me) or more experienced cooks, as the knowledge gained and spirit to give things a go, will stand everyone you attends in good stead for future Indian culinary exploits.

Seven of us attended the beginners' course. Probably fair to say that none of us were beginners at cooking but definitely had a lot to learn about Indian herbs and spices. Quite rightly we spent a long time smelling, tasting and handling the herbs and spices and learning how and where they grow and how they are used. And - equally important - where they can best be bought or obtained. Nikita Gulhane is a skilled and amusing teacher and was good at bringing the individual participants out. He was quick to intervene if anyone had let the cooking oil get too hot but otherwise relaxed about letting us get on with the job of preparing a meal which we all enjoyed together afterwards. And his delightful mother, "Mrs G" (the power behind the throne) was also there when needed. Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable experience. More...
