Rumours Bakehouse

Gutted to be posting this review as don’t like confrontation but feel there’s no other option as the business have posted about us.

Myself and Louise Barr ordered a cake and cupcakes from Rumours Bakehouse for our joint 21st on Saturday. The cake (and cupcakes) were ordered and paid for months ago and was due to be collected on Friday. It cost us £100. When we ordered the cake the baker seemed more than confident that she could make it. We asked for red, rose gold and pink tiers as those were our colour scheme. We also asked for for the cake to tell a story of our friendship by adding photos from us from school until present time. And maybe something to do with things we had done together (bright lights, zante, Paris, T in the park etc).

On Friday Louise and her mum went to collect the cake and there was stuff missing so the baker agreed to fix it. (It also had no red or rose gold, big floppy pink things in the middle tier which I can only assume was supposed to be theatre curtains (again not red) and looked like it our names had been written on by sharpie. These things were not clear at the time as from a distance you can’t make out. I couldn’t be there at the time as I was working.

Louise and her sister had to scrap the terrible icing off the cakes and repipe and decorate them.

The following day Louise and mary went back to collect the cake and the baker had printed out the missing words on a bit of edible paper and stuck it on top. At this point it was too late to get another as the party was that evening so they took the cake. The cake travelled upright on Louise’s knee and when they got home and looked at it more closely it was completely lopsided and collapsing more and more. The bake house was messaged and replied saying there was nothing they could do.

As the night went on the cake tilted more and more. When we cut into it there was a raspberry sauce (for ice cream) type of solution pouring out in replacement of jam. It was inedible. It was also held up with paper straws. (I assume this is why it was collapsing).

Overall we had a awful experience and Louise’s mum returned the cake to the shop to complain. After continuous arguing(screaming and shouting) the baker finally agreed a refund. We were happy to leave it at that.

Unfortunately the bakehouse have decided to come to Facebook and play the victim. I understand that it’s frustrating as a business to lose out on money but if your incapable of doing what a customer asks then what is the point in agreeing to do it.🤯

Since seeing the cake on Saturday I’ve had numerous people tell me about similar experiences they have had with this baker and that they cannot believe they are still in business.

I’m going to finish this review by again saying that I hate to have to out a small business on Facebook but at this point they have done it to themselves. More...

Thank you so much for the great morning we spent cupcake baking and decorating. It was such a fun way to celebrate my friends birthday and of course our afternoon tea was lovely (as always). See you again soon xx
