Printotype (especially Oli) were so helpful in creating/delivering exactly the (very specific) parts we needed. Would certainly recommend.

Q&As

Refreshingly different challenges daily. Over the years of running Printotype, no month is ever the same. One month we might be working on tooling for a large manufacturer to bring more productivity to their staff on the shop floor, the next may be taking an out of production component, with no documentation history, and bringing it back into existence. The next may be completely working on a ground up product for the equine industry, or a Internet of Things remote sensor.

It is this diverse range of projects, the people we meet, and the solutions we provide, that is what i love most about this job.

I saw that there was a significant gap in the market for businesses that help support other businesses, entrepreneurs and startups, to create, innovate and improve their products. Many of the offerings needed manufacturing quotas in the tens of thousands, or wanted vast up front costs to provide services, which was a huge barrier for many enterprising small businesses. I could see this under served market, and set up my business.

A keen understanding of how do develop an idea into a fully fledged commercial product, and years of experience knowing the pitfalls and strengths that different manufacturing methods can offer in designing a product or component.

Much of our design consultancy can be offered remotely. By sending us scans, drawings, or physical copies of documentation we can work from start to finish with you on a project without a need to meet directly in person. In fact many of our overseas clients have worked with us exclusively in this manner.

Offer remote web meetings, maintaining social distancing, remote working and forced air filtration system in our manufacturing labs.

Services

we can take your initial idea from a very rough concept through to a detailed and well engineered design, ready for manufacture.

This may involve taking hand drawn sketches and turning into a CAD Drawing, reverse engineering using 3D Scanning, or converting old 2D drawings into 3D models.

Using in-house and local suppliers we can fabricate prototypes of nearly any conceivable design.

In the past this has included:

Micro PC Enclosures
Medical Braces
6ft UAV Drones
Sub scale Architectural Models
Power Tools
Jigs & Fixtures
Headwear
Classic Car components
Bespoke trophies

And many more

Along with design aspects, we can undertake thorough analysis of your proposed product or idea, and look at potential opportunities and pitfalls, competitors, and numerous other aspects to consider during the design process.
Understanding these before moving into mass production can be incredibly insightful and allow you to produce a winning product out of the gate.

Using our industry connections, in house assets and knowledge of small and medium volume manufacture, we can work alongside you to develop a DFM plan to create your product in the most effective manner, and can leverage on entirely UK based manufacturing ecosystems or put this out to the wider global manufacturing market and industry partners if it better suits the purpose.
