Situated close to the M25 and the A22, and nestled on top of the North Downs on the outskirts of South London, the unsurprisingly named North Downs Golf Club is an attractive, but short Downland / Parkland course. Being over 120 years old, as you would expect, the course the longest today's standards, with a par of 69 at just over 5500 yards from the standard Yellow tees. A number of the par 4s are drivable for longer hitters, with 4 below 300 yards. What the course may lack in length is more than made up for in the difficulty stakes by side hill lies, elevation changes and small greens - all features characteristic to a large proportion of Downland courses.Playing in the November, following a spell of rain the day before, the course was soft, but playable, and the greens ran okay considering the weather we had in the build up. The bunkers were all free of water which is always a bonus come this time of year!The course has a number of interesting holes, with my personal highlights being the spectacular downhill par 3 9th and the challenging par 4 10th which winds its way through one of the lowest parts of the course.Keep an eye out for some great offers- we were able to pick up a tee time, bacon roll and hot drink (beforehand) and a pint of beer afterwards for £30 per person. Not bad for a Sunday lunchtime!Overall, I did enjoy the course and felt that it offered good value, and would be interested to see how much easier (and shorter) it plays in the summer with firm ground. There are a number of more challenging (and fun to play) courses in fairly close vicinity, but that shouldn't prevent you from checking out North Downs GC at least once! Played here today and was made to feel so very welcome! Lovely well kept course and great food and service. The only reason I didn't give a 5 was for the clubhouse decor which is a bit tired, but it won't stop me coming back ��

My favourite club in the local area, the members are always so friendly and welcoming.
The course is a challenge, not a simple blast up the fairway but instead a thinking mans course making course management crucial to get a good score.
The course is maintained fantastically and the location provides outstanding views :-)

Course in fantastic condition for November, leaves cleared from all greens, fairways & even under trees plus after 2 days of torrential rain the course was very well drained & dry, all in all had a great day.
