I have recently completed a 15 day Mini Apprenticeship with Nick. Overall I had such an amazing experience I feel that the way Nick set up the course really allows you to learn the fundamentals of the craft and then helps you work towards exploring your own creativity within this art form. The best part of the course for me was that it offers studio and onsite work meaning you get to actually apply all of the techniques you learn in studio to real jobs overall meaning you really lock in all the skills you have learnt . Nick was such a helpful mentor not only through inspiring me to look at type with new eyes but actually helping me to breakdown my current work and improve them with the fundamental strokes of signs writing. What a great talent and knowledge of signwriting Nick has is amazing!!! During 2 days course he teached us such a thorough foundation on lettering with professional support and with lots of fun. I enjoyed every moment on the brush with no previous experience. The studio is lovely and welcoming, live demos are brilliant and very inspiring. Thank you Nick for all the support, guidance and practical advises during and after the class.I definitely recommend your course to anyone really. Nick completed our cafe sign a couple of weeks ago and we couldn't be happier. A very friendly and proffessional job, sorted very quickly and he is also very flexible on times when the job can be done. Nick knows his stuff!!!

NGS was a great experience for me in the company of likeminded people all inspired and warmly welcomed by Nick Garrett. Since then Nick and I have kept in contact and hes been a loving, caring friend to me in my times of need. We may not be fortunate enough to see each other regularly, but I know I can always rely on him whether it be for guidance or inspiration. He’s got a big heart this man, a shed loada knowledge and an abundance of passion for the craft of type, his drive to inspire others and spread the word to his students is next level. I have never been interested about painting letters, but after having attended a 2 day sign making course at the Central School of Speech and Drama by Nick, a whole world of colours, shapes, strokes and history has opened my eyes. He is sooo knowledgeable and passionate about the job.I suddently wanted to learn more about it so I have been undertaking 3 weeks for work experience with him. We were spending some days in the studio to practice my painting skills and techniques and some days around London to paint signs for businesses. I particularly like his friendly and easy going way to teach: he trusted me and when we were working on site he gave me a sort of professional freedom that allowed me to develop my technical skills quickly, he has teach me so many tricks, tips and ways to improve my work. I have also learned a lot about dealing with customers, budget, working under pressure, managing time and myself.He is an amazing person and the best sign writer and teacher around. I would have never expected to be learning so much. I will definitely work with him again. More...
