Q&As

I feel incredibly privileged to do what I do. I read an article recently where a therapist stated that instead of mental illness being a sign of being weak, the strongest people she had ever met had come into her therapy room and this is absolutely true. In being a counsellor and psychotherapist, I meet amazing people, who let me into their world for that short time. I find myself constantly in awe of how they have coped, sometimes with some truly awful things, how brave they are to come to counselling, and how they work to try to make their lives better. For me to watch, and to be a part of the process of putting a broken life back together, can be immensely rewarding.

Starting my own business has been a challenge. I've always worked for other people, but I find myself really starting to enjoy running my own business. As a counsellor and psychotherapist, it gives me the freedom to be able to offer to clients what I feel passionate about, and to be able to work in the way that is best for them. It helps me to make my therapy individual to that client.

If you're looking for a stereotypical, middle-aged counsellor, then that isn't me. If you're looking for someone who will promise you that counselling and psychotherapy will be serene and calm, then that also isn't me. After all, how can talking about the things that have hurt and upset you the most ever be serene and calm?
What you will get, however, is someone who wants to be there with you, at your pace. I won't rush or pressure you, but I want to go to those hurtful and painful places with you, if you would like me to. You will get someone who wants to know you, as you are, and wants to understand you and how you see and experience the world. You will get someone who won't judge you, and who respects and values you for the person you are. You will get someone who wants to create the safest space and relationship she can so that those difficult feelings can start to be expressed, and acknowledged, and dealt with. Together, we will find the right way forward, for you.
