so far so good he gave me a lower and upper price when we discussed the job and he was right in the middle when i paid he gave me advice on the work needed if i decided to replace the gutter and downpipes and was friendly the leak seems to be cured now with new parts to join the 2 gutters

In Nov 2022 I employed Martin’s business to come and look at repairing my window vents and drafts. I told them the issues, and they said it was just a case of replacing the vents (agreed) and replacing the draft seals (agreed). They also looked to adjust the positioning of one window that was badly out of place.

They came in, replaced all the vents. Perfect.
They fixed the window gap. Perfect.
And “added” new white foam like sealings around every window itself. Not replacing the existing seal, but adding additional seal. Not knowing any different, I Assumed it was ok.

I assumed this was proper and correct, even tho each window was now very tight to close. I was told this was “better”.

Over the course of some months, I started to notice clicking of two windows when they closed. And in April of 2023, the Bedroom window was clicking. When I pushed it, while it was “locked”, it simply… opened.. with the handle down. No idea how long it had done this since he replaced the seal.

Then the bathroom window handle snapped off, because of how badly the foam was causing the pressure when closing the window. A bit like someone pushing the window out, as you try to close it. Over time, the metal just snapped.

I contacted Martin about this. After a few messages back and forth, he said he would come over on a Friday evening. That afternoon he said he couldn’t come as his colleague had the van, which had his tools. So he was moved to another time.

At that new time, 4pm, he was again late, and by 430 I contacted him, and he said he was waiting for his wife to get home, to look after the kids. He lives in the Wisbech area. So a good 45 minutes away. Thought he would message me around 315 to say he would be late. He never turned up at all.

This happened a few times. I kept telling him I had security issues now (a window that wouldn’t lock closed and a bathroom window handle broken so couldn't opened, with concerns of ALL windows).

He also said he had new locking mechanisms on "Special Order", saying he knew how long things these take.

Since this total lack of any care or consideration, I’ve had two window experts in.

One window repair guy that came over, said he could order one mechanism now on Ebay or Amazon and it would be here in a 24 hours.

Both experts said it was “Shoddy work”, with cheap B&Q seal around the windows that was causing additional pressure on the handle when closing it. Their words!

Another said, “why did he not just replace this black Stormgard seal?”.
So since I first reported this, roughly 4 weeks ago from this review, he never showed any sorrow for the issues I was left with.

I bought a new handle for the bathroom, as you can just replace that for about £5. One repair man who came to check it all, fitted that for me, as I did it wrong and thought the lock was broken. He was “honest”. Took him 2 mins.

Since then, he’s confirmed the hinges are a bit iffy, but replacing the seals is a great start.

This is an honest review. I did not know what was needed to fix the windows. But what was done, caused increase significant wear, broken one window locking mechanism, and snapped window handle on the bathroom.

Be extremely careful who you employ for your window repairs.
I was initially impressed by their timeliness, but the support afterwards, and the lack of care he offered to a house with serious security concerns, is bad.

It has caused stress (can't seal off my window!), and when the handle snapped off "oh god not this as well now". Thankfully a Google check showed they are simple to fix.

We are looking into alternative arrangements now after the state this has left us - including legal and Bark.

2 star merely because they did do the vents and window, and I think they fitted a new vent cover on the bathroom fan.

But only 2, because of the stress, broken window lock (which will cost me over £100 to repair), and broken handle (that I did myself). I was lied to repeatedly, and left with a broken window lock, that for over a month now, cannot be secured. And a bathroom window I could not open.
