A recent and excellent early evening meal with friends. The food was excellent and the main course cooked to perfection. The wine list was 'fair' and acceptable although - on one downside, I was unable to discern just how long a bottle had been previously opened before being served to guests. we all had a good night, food choices were excellent we all had different main courses and enjoyed them all, good wine selection, and although we were later arriving than most other diners, we were not chased out or made to feel uncomfortable finishing our drinks and enjoying the evening.

We booked three days before and got a table. Just as well as otherwise we would have missed a great meal. The service was first class and the food was just what we wanted for a Christmas meal. There was no hurry to finish. We took 2 hours and had it not been for having to go elsewhere, we could have stayed much longer. The restaurant was very busy but after an hour it was quieter. Having been delighted with service and food at a special birthday in October, my wife and I returned to McKenzies for dinner last Saturday. The service was excellent and the only slight disappointment was that the salmon that my wife chose was a bit dry. MacKenzies always has good quality food and is fairly priced. The staff are attentive, helpful and considerate. The restaurant is welcoming and tables are reasonably spaced for a pleasant evening, either with friends or as a couple.

My husband and I went to this restaurant for a quiet celebration of our 2nd anniversary. As usual the food was fantastic and the service was lovely. Family dinner at Mackenzies last week - delicious food, very attentive and friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. Happily accommodated my mother in law in her wheelchair and we could park right outside the front door. Highly recommend.

There is a very nice relaxed feeling as soon as you walk in and a warm greeting is ensured. We have dined here several times and never been disappointed but this was our first time for Sunday Lunch. I had the tomato and red pepper soup, my partner the sea bass which we both enjoyed. The roast beef was tender and the gravy was smooth, tasty and rich. The brandy snap fruit basket didn't quite 'snap' but the fruit was fresh and delicious. Although we weren't asked if we wished a drink whilst looking at the menu, the service was well-timed and friendly with a good choice of wines. We frequent here relatively often, very good food; consistently tasty - highlander chicken with the drambuie sauce is out of this world. A very nice restaurant, a bit of journey out of Edinburgh - but very worthy of the trip.The restaurant is nicely laid out, and the menu covered all the preferences of my party (3). A birthday lunch at a restaurant within walking distance has something going for it before a bite is eaten. MacKenzies hit the ground running, as it were. The place was soothingly quiet, spotlessly clean, service was not tardy, the menu was excellent value and well varied, the wine list was attractively priced and our French merlot was perfect for our roast lamb.
