I have known Katie for a long time and have always found her sense of style inspiring. Recently, we had the chance to work with her on our living room/ dining room/ conservatory and bathroom design when we were moving into a new house. The space had some challenges in terms of light and space, and we wanted to make sure we were making use of the potential of the area effectively. We never worked with an interior designer before and were not sure how the process would go at the beginning but with Katie’s very approachable and friendly attitude, we found it very easy to make decisions that would be otherwise too difficult for us.

Katie did an amazing job assessing our style needs and wants, and integrated her space solutions into the style we were after. The final design addressed the challenges in the space and still kept the original style we wanted. After receiving the final design from Katie, the work in the house started by external builders and during this process, she was still in touch with us to make sure she was there in case we needed her. She was happy to step in when there was a need to make minor adjustments and she also showed great flexibility to adjust to the changing circumstances.

When working with her, you can easily see her passion for this and it reflects in the ideas she comes up with and the designs she creates. We also witnessed her going beyond the task in hand and making suggestions for the surrounding areas, which we very much appreciated. Overall, she is one of those people that impresses you with their energy, approach to work and professionalism, and we recommend Katie without any hesitation. We are sure we will work with her again in future projects.

Isn't it easy to put furniture into a room to make it functional? We had a living room with a sofa and armchairs but no style or even welcoming atmosphere. Having struggled for a while to design a versatile, family-friendly and functional space we contacted Katie Malik and suddenly a struggle became a journey to beautifully designed room which everyone in the family likes best.

It has been a pleasure from the first meeting to talk to Katie so full of enthusiasm, with attention to detail and ability to bring a collection of preferences and whims into a real design. We especially benefited from following Katie's bold ideas which we would have not even thought about. She is able to see beyond the usual and typical.
Katie's skills in finding furniture, matching to the existing pieces and her flexibility when plans need to change are commendable. Katie gives a lot of her time and attention to the project. She answered many little questions about accessories and small changes. Additionally, other professionals she chooses to work with and recommends also have high standards and do a superb job (for example, carpenters and joiners that made a focal point bookcase and desk which Katie designed).

It is easy to follow Katie's project schedule. She has a clear step by step plan of meetings, presentations and she keeps to her deadlines. We were also able to stop at any point or add additional services.

We would recommend Katie without hesitation.

Having never employed an interior designer before, we were a little hesitant but were completely stuck for living room designs having moved into a new property. Clearly we couldn't see past the furniture we had brought with us but fortunately Katie did! She listened to all our various thoughts in our first meeting and came back with two different designs and it's lead to us fitting out the living room with ideas we would never have thought of previously. Katie was very helpful throughout the process and in follow up and we also liked the ability to utilise her exceptional services as much or as little as we liked. We wouldn't hesitate to call on her services again and would recommend taking the plunge to friends and family! More...

We asked Katie to help us design a living room in our new extension. We were really stuck with a blank canvas and not knowing where to start. She came up with lots of great ideas and was really helpful it sourcing the required items and helped to find people for soft furnishings and carpentry. She was great at working to our budget and incorporating our ideas and feedback. She has followed up several times to make sure things are going well. I would have no reservations in recommending Katie, she was highly professional and excellent value for money. We are so pleased with the result. More...

After not re-decorating for a very long time katie came up with a design that was just what we wanted and gave us a badly needed update. The colours and patterns that she chose work beautifully together to create a really calming bedroom. We are very pleased with the end result and can't wait to start on the rest of the house! Katie helped us transform a boring fireplace room (which was never used) into a glamorous and relaxing snug area - which is now our favourite room in the house. She also helped us source furniture from places we didn’t know existed and came up with perfect solutions for paint colours. It was a pleasure working with Katie - thank you. More...

We are a local developer and were searching for an interior designer to create a scheme for our development of five luxury apartments in Saffron Walden, Essex.

Katie immediately stood out with her responsiveness and willingness to engage. We also really liked her project management style approach, where she clearly set out her deliverables and timelines. She never missed one.

Her vision was presented in a very impressive manner with visualisations of each room of our development, complete with the actual fixtures and fittings she had sourced.

Notwithstanding she is clearly a superb designer, she also ensures this is complemented by going the extra mile. Nothing was too much trouble for Katie.

We would have no problems recommending Katie and look forward to working with her again in the future.

Katie was highly recommended to us by others who had seen her work. Katie's attention to detail is evident when she shares her design. The survey of our apartment gave us confidence that her design would work both in terms of a boutique look but also on a practical level.

Katie listened to the brief, created a design, shared fabrics, arranged the headboards, cushions etc and also arranged for fittings. We could not be happier with the outcome of the Cambridge apartment (which we rent) so much so that we have asked Katie to help us at our home in Dorset.

I asked Katie to help me re-decorate my living room - furniture, wall coverings, rugs, the lot! I know the kinds of styles I like, but really struggled to envisage how things would look in the room, where to place them, which colours would go etc. We had a relatively small budget to work with, but i'm so pleased I spent some of that asking for her help.
She really listened to my ideas, likes, dislikes and concerns and came up with a package to suit our budget. She came to see me with a fantastic room plan with items listed with their prices so I could go away and order them, knowing everything would be within budget. Even after she had handed this over, she is still very responsive to emails and willing to help me with questions I have on the design.
A real pleasure working with her and wouldn't hesitate in using her again.

We hired Katie Malik's interior design and project management services for our living room project. We wanted a fireplace reinstated into the chimney breast and bespoke scandi-style built-in cupboards and shelves with integrated electrics and LED lighting built into either side of the fireplace.

Katie was friendly and extremely professional throughout the project, from our initial consultation through to completion.

Her design work was beautiful and she significantly improved upon our original ideas, while understanding exactly what we wanted and staying true to it.

She was communicative, responsive and had endless patience in answering our numerous questions throughout the project.

Her coordination of the various workers and the project as a whole was very efficient, and we felt we could trust her to ensure all aspects of the work were completed to a very high standard.

Katie's eye for design and her attention to detail (both in design and in execution) have given us a stunning and functional new living room that is better than we had imagined.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her, and would urge anyone to hire an interior designer (preferably Katie) nomatter how small the project.. the results will be worth every penny in design fees.

Katie created a New York loft-inspired design for the top floor of our new house, including two teenage boys' rooms, a large landing and shower room.

Working with Katie is a very positive experience; she listens carefully, provides many original ideas, is flexible and patient if things don't work quite as planned, and always clear on all aspects of the project management, cost and timings etc.

I am very pleased with the results, and my two sons are proud of their new rooms and love spending time up there. I certainly could not have done such a good job on my own, or in the same amount of time. I have now asked Katie to work on designs for another phase of our house.

Katie was very open and responsive to my ideas, and took plenty of time to understand what I needed from the space we were working on. At no time was the process rushed, and the results were totally as expected. The designs were clear and made best use of a very small garden office space, and the list of materials and furniture items was comprehensive. Work commitments kept me from carrying out the ideas for some time, but Katie remained available over email and offered to help with any questions once I had time. Overall, a great experience and someone I'd recommend people work with. More...

I hired Katie Malik for the re-design, renovation and furnishing of a one bedroom, split-level flat in a historic building in the Kite area, close to the centre of Cambridge. The building had originally been converted in the 1980s and the flat was out-dated in its design and far too dark. Katie transformed it into a beautiful, bright, modern space that can be used efficiently and is interesting to be in. The removal of the walls that boxed in and enclosed a small kitchen and the installation of a breakfast bar turned the eating area into a beautifully lit, warm and welcoming, feature of the flat (see photo). It was a pleasure working with Katie. She was very efficient and fast at getting the work done, and the project finished on schedule. She worked well with her contractors, who were first rate, but she never hesitate to ask them to re-do anything that wasn’t up to her high standards. She was able to coordinate inexpensive furniture and décor items with dearer ones, to respect the overall budget. We were able to share ideas and work well as a team. I would definitely employ her again and recommend her without hesitation. More...

Katie Malik provided us with some consultation. My husband and I bought a house a few months ago and we could not agree on a few points: paints, tiles in both bathrooms, flooring for the kitchen and for one of the bathrooms and style of the kitchen (my husband wanted a traditional, ideally all wooden and I wanted modern, glossy and white). Katie Malik's help during consultation was enormous here. She is a good listener. She made us realize what really matters for us and what we can compromise on. She gave us a lot of tips during the consultation and showed us a number of examples. We made some decisions together and my husband and I are both happy with the result (on paper for the time being, but in reality in two months time-can't wait).

It's very likely that I will contact Katie in the future. She is professional, flexible, very creative, knowledgeable (she pointed out a few things that we did not know about and would have caused us problems) and really listens to what you want/need.

Thank you Katie for your help and hope to work with you again in the future.

Throughout the build period, Katie was very supportive and in regular contact with me and the client to ensure the remit was provided as required, on time and within budget.
I was impressed with her determination, background knowledge, professional approach, communication skills and her eye on workmanship.

Q&As

Every design process starts with an in-depth brief where I collect the information about the client, their needs and desires. Below is a snippet of quite a long list of questions, which help me understand what my clients would like to achieve. This is then translated into a concept design, supported by revised layouts, proposed fabrics, materials and sketches. The concept presentation is not done through a simple board with images or/and samples, but instead the client receives a carefully collated booklet, which they can keep and come back to whenever they wish to, and all fabrics and materials are carefully arranged in a box. This allows the client to take out a sample, look at it carefully, touch it, try it in a different light. All of this contributes to a holistic design experience Katie Malik Interiors offers. The process is then repeated as the client’s comments are addressed, and design developed. In the next development stage, we offer our clients beautiful 3D interior visualisations, called CGIs, not only 3D models. These realistic renderings allow our clients to really see what their space is going to look and feel like. Once the design is approved, we move on to technical design where we produce drawings for tender and construction. Our clients, should they wish, can also delegate sourcing of finishes, fittings and furniture to us. We then coordinate deliveries to the site and manage installations. After the project starts we also visit the site, which is the best way to ensure the integrity of the design is achieved.

My studio is client-led, but we specialise in contemporary and transitional styles. The latter is also known as contemporary classic as it takes both contemporary and traditional elements.

My passion lies in improving spaces so they reflect the personalities, and address the needs of the people living in them. The most precious thing for me is the happiness of my clients who see the final product and love their new space.

I developed my drawing skills at a young age while collaborating with my father on his interior and furniture design business. This led to me studying the profession at the Chelsea College of Art in London. After I trained, I tried running my own business but quickly realised I needed to gain even more hands-on experience, which I managed to get by working for high-end residential design studios in London, such as Fenton Whelan and 1508 London. Once I felt confident enough that I had gained enough knowledge and experience, I returned to running my own business in Cambridge.

Katie Malik Interiors designs with real passion and innovation that puts people first.

Katie Malik Interiors is about so much more than “what looks right”. In accordance with the belief “A home should reflect the people living there”, Katie Malik Interiors is about taking a holistic view of the way individuals use and enjoy the space and creating the best solutions in the existing interior spaces.

We have been told we have infectious enthusiasm for providing efficient and sophisticated design solutions, which make any project a unique design journey.
