What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
The most important "secret" to a great photograph is first to stand in front of something interesting. Often this is easier said than done so that is where creativity has to come in.
The next most important "secret" is lighting and controlling light, it really makes the difference between a good photograph and a great photograph.
Oh, and they say that your first 10,000 photographs are your worst - so experience counts for a lot!
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I'm keen to know the client, to listen to what they want and understand their ideas. Only then will I start to offer my thoughts and ideas that might add value to their project. It is also important to know if the client wants to direct their photographer or leave them to take care of everything, I am flexible and can operate either way or somewhere in between.
It is so important to talk to the client about their requirements. If I can't deliver the outcomes that the customer wants then we really shouldn't be working together.
What do you love most about your job?
Photography is a passion, it is has been a hobby for most of my life and now it is something I can dedicate myself to. The reward in what I do is the reaction of the client to the service and the finished product.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have had a successful corporate career from which I have taken early retirement.
I am now able to pursue my dream of running my own photography business and providing a quality service at a reasonable cost.
