Bereavement Counselling

I have been working with James for about a year now and in that year I have grown considerably. Many people in my life have noticed a change in myself and can see how much these sessions help me. It is safe to say I haven’t had the smoothest of rides so far in life and some things I have been able to discuss with James are things that I had never even dreamed of discussing. The reason I decided to take the step into getting help was because one of my good friends unfortunately took his life and I really needed support in how to cope with the situation. James gave me the time I needed to reflect on what had happened and helped me to grow through it. Since then we have worked on many things and are currently working on my future. To me this is a massive thing because in the past I never wanted a future for myself and never thought I would be planning one. Every session I have with James is different but it helps to know that I am always speaking to the same friendly face and with someone who truly cares and listens. I know it is a safe space when we talk and I can express how I feel without any judgement. I cannot thank James enough for how much he has helped me and all the work he does in helping other people. Bereavement Counselling

I have been working with James for 4 sessions. I contacted him after I realised I had not processed the loss of my dad. He is helping me work through this as well as other life challenges. After 4 sessions I feel a lot better, James has been great at listening but also challenging to think out side of the box and go back through what could have caused you to feel that way. Thank you James. More...

Bereavement Counselling

I contacted James Mills after the sudden death of my long term partner as I was desperate for help during the worst time in my life.

Unfortunately at the time money was a big issue. When I knew the cost I had to say that I couldn't afford the sessions. But James offered a lower rate for me as he said that he would rather do that as he could tell I was desperate for counselling. I really couldn't thank him enough for doing that for me. He was able to do this because of people paying a higher rate. This shows the level of commitment and care he has for all his clients, especially for me. It’s having someone that can listen to all the feelings that go on in your mind and body when a devastating event happens.

At the beginning all I wanted was to be with my partner, that was all I could think of. But having James to talk to and help me go through the stages of grief really helped me understand that I wasn't alone and it was normal to feel what I was feeling.

If James didn’t exist I wouldn't have got through this last year. I possibly wouldn't have been here to write this. James saved my life. May sound extreme but it's true. And there's other people like me that need the help of someone like James, to get the help, understanding, commitment and professionalism that he has shown me.

On a personal note, James was caring, understanding, patient, compassionate and very easy to talk to and always there if I was having a bad day. I could contact him anytime I needed him. I have now come through the other side. I have accepted that I need to move on and try and carry on with my life now. I will never get over the loss but I wouldn't have gotten there without the help from James. All I can say is thank you and I know he will keep helping people like me for a long time to come.

Bereavement Counselling

I had 7 sessions with James which I found to be very helpful and informative. I am a Masters student coming to the end of my degree and James got me thinking about moving into my career. I was initially skeptical of mentoring/coaching but James knows his stuff and is a great professional. I really enjoyed our sessions. James welcomes critical thinking and some of the best discussions we had came from differing views. I found James to be empathetic, encouraging and very, very challenging! I got a real sense that James wanted the best for me in terms of my personal and professional development which is crucial for this type of client/professional relationship. James has been a very important part of my transition from student to young professional. Thanks a mil! More...

I have been working with James for the last 2 years now and he really has been a lifesaver. Helping me with various parts of my life that I didn’t even know I needed help with. Things like my discipline and self-care, coming from a background where I didn’t have that influence. It hasn’t always been plain sailing but has without a doubt been a privilege and I always look forward to what I am going to learn from him next. Thank you, James. More...

I have been reflecting how much I have changed because of the work we have done together. You helped me step out of my comfort zone, made me aware of some subconscious habits and the way I approach things.

Through your mentorship, you’ve had good answers and solutions for everything that needed to be addressed. I’ve learned things that would never have crossed my mind through your tutelage, and I’d like to thank you for the difference you’ve made in my career. Thank you for always guiding me back to the right path. I really do not know where I would be without you, other than lost! You appeared at the right time in my life. Your support and teaching have gifted me with perspective and direction I would not have otherwise had, and I thank you.

Q&As

I love most the fact that I can choose who I work with and who I help. Where possible I want to build meaningful long-term relationships with people because that's where the true transformation happens.

Ideally I want to be working with those who are willing to explore, question and examine every area of their life, because through that process, the biggest breakthroughs are possible.

The biggest thing was the opportunity to help others in the way that I've been helped. My mentors, coaches and counsellors have enabled me to face huge challenges, to face fears that may have dogged me for a lifetime... sometimes without me even knowing they were there!

To see others make significant breakthroughs in all areas of their lives and careers is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling; especially when they go on to help others in the way they've been helped.

My first question I would ask any prospective mentor, coach or counsellor is who they are being mentored, coached and counselled by? Personally speaking I feel it lacks personal and professional integrity to not have one when offering this service to others.

I have been mentored, coached and counselled for the last 13 years and been supported to break through in all areas of my life. It's an ongoing process, so I continue to invest in my growth and development.

Each day I also have the privilege to connect with a community of fellow mentors, coaches and counsellors who have supported me through some of my biggest challenges. I have ongoing access to an incredible level of wisdom that has helped me and I am fortunate where I can share it with others through my work.

Yes, I do the significant majority of my work online via Zoom. I'll add that I record all sessions for the benefit of both myself and the client because we quickly forget so much of what we say and hear!

I conduct most of my mentoring, coaching and counselling sessions through Zoom.

Services

Lost a loved one and struggling to come to terms with your loss?

I want to help others in the way that I have been helped by my mentors, coaches and counsellors.

In May 2020, I lost my mum to a brain tumour. Her passing was the most challenging situation I’ve needed to face in my life so far. She suffered from bi-polar for much of her life and so my relationship with her was far from easy. There was a huge amount of forgiveness work to be done, which is where counselling helped me immensely.

I aim to help others to come to terms with their loss in order to become stronger through instilling increased levels of meaning and purpose in their lives. I want to empower others to honour the loss of a loved one through honouring their legacy in whatever way possible.

Looking for increased levels of meaning, purpose, health and happiness?

When I was in my late 20s I found myself in a position where I was ticking all the boxes of life that I had been told to tick... degree, career, mortgage, active social life etc. But the big issue was that I wasn't happy! Would love to share the things that I've learnt about life and living. I was depressed and would've become suicidal had it not been for the mentorship, coaching and counselling I received.

Feel like you've plateaued in your career? Looking to accelerate your progress into a leadership position?

I advanced into a senior role in a relatively short space of time and have helped others to do that quicker because of what I've learnt through being mentored, coached and counselled.

How many people know that health is not just physical?

As human beings we are more than just a meatsuit! We also have emotional, mental and spiritual health that we need to nurture. I help people understand and then adopt the fundamentals of healthy living to all four human dimensions; physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Looking to start a business that's making a social impact?

95% of businesses fail in the first 5 years. I've been involved in research to discover why that's the case regardless of sector or industry. Keen to work with those who are currently in the security of employment and looking to build the foundation they need to launch a sustainable social business built to last in the next 2-3 years.

Do you find yourself often pushed about by others and struggle to stand up for yourself? It could be a person at work, friends, family or even your partner?

I was bullied as a child and this created a fear of people that still exists in me today as someone on their 40s. I have been helped hugely over the last 2-3 years to learn to stand up to bullies in my own family and so-called friends.

Do you struggle with self-esteem and building relationships?

I suffered from terrible shyness as a child and this led to me battling with confidence and social interactions well into my adult years. Being mentored, coached and counselled has enabled me to make quantum shifts whilst recognising I still have somewhere to go. It's a privilege to help others make these shifts in a fraction of the time that it took me!

Do you wonder why no matter how hard you try, you always seem to be banging your head against the wall in relation to certain challenges?

There are universal laws and principles that govern how all aspects of life work. To achieve the outcome we want, we must first understand the principle(s) involved and then align ourselves with them. I have spent the last 13+ years striving to learn and apply these... it's a lifelong journey to do so!

Looking to connect with others who have similar aspirations to progress physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually?

One of the biggest reasons is that pretty much everyone struggles to follow through is they lack a community of like-hearted and like-spirited people to support them.

I work with people to help them to become part of an existing group or part of building one if there isn't a suitable group available to join.

Looking to pursue a more meaningful and fulfilling career?

Building on my 7 years of experience in the charity sector I help people to make shifts into more altruistic and meaningful careers.
