What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
I dont believe there is any one answer to this question. In wedding photography its a culmination of a wide range of things, from understanding the principles of photography, to being confident and knowledgeable in your equipment.
However although technical knowledge is important its not necessarily going to get you a 'Great Photograph' I truly believe that to capture that great image the most important thing is the 'Human Factor.
Most people like to be photographed if they perceive it as warm, genuine personal attention and as a wedding photographer this is exactly what i try to achieve with all my clients.
Shoot the moment and not the subject. Weddings are a series of moments not images and capturing that moment rather than something that is arranged and posed always leads to a better image.
Notice the details. Details tell stories and trigger intimate memories.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I often ask my clients what it is they want from their wedding photography. Most of the time my clients have already seen the type of images they love and although i have my own style i try not to restrict myself too much and will make every effort to produce those images the client has seen.
Getting as much information and detail of the wedding from the client such as times, contact details, venue details, etc is vitally important to ensuring that all goes smoothly on the day. Fail to prepare, Prepare to fail. Working closely with the client right at the start and planning stage of the wedding with help to ensure they get those images they want on the day.
What do you love most about your job?
Meeting new people and sharing one of the most important days in their lives. Providing them with images and memories of their day that will las them a lifetime.
What inspired you to start your own business?
The love of photography and the desire to make people happy.
