Services

Home Instead provides professional companion care, helping older people across the UK to continue to live a fulfilling life, in their own homes.

What is Companionship care?
Many people we support simply want company and conversation, whether they live alone and cannot see their family and friends as often as they would like, or if they are recently bereaved and are finding it hard to adjust. Loneliness can have serious effects on a person’s health and Home Instead aims to prevent loneliness through companionship care.

The company of our CAREGivers
From giving you a hand with the weekly shop, accompanying you to your doctor’s appointment or to your favourite social group or event, companionship is simply being there for you or your loved one. If you need someone to make sure you’re eating healthily or just fancy popping out for lunch? No problem, our CAREGivers are there for you.

Live well with Home Instead
We believe that age isn’t a barrier to adventure. We’ve also had a huge amount of success in helping older people start something new. Many of our clients have taken up new hobbies such as learning to dance, play instruments, knit and cook specialist dishes. If there’s something new you’d like to start or an old passion you’d like to revisit, we can match you to the right person to help you achieve this.

Whatever it is that you enjoy doing, we’ll find the right CAREGiver to support you and become your chosen companion.

Find the perfect companion
Home care with us could mean a fresh start, opening new doors to exciting new possibilities and friendships. We want you to live well, your way and our CAREGivers will help you do that.

Living well often starts with looking after the home and studies show that having a clean and tidy house can have positive effects on health and wellbeing.

Home help for older people living in their own home
Our home help services for older people include help taking out the bins, dusting, hoovering, decluttering, feeding the cat and even washing and ironing. It covers all aspects of housekeeping to help you to live well in your home environment so that it remains clean, tidy and safe.

Because our CAREGivers are matched to you, they will take time to get to know how you like to keep your house and make it a happy place for you to live.

This will free up valuable time and energy, so you can focus on doing the things you want to do and enjoy.

To us, it’s personal. Whether it is helping you with personal hygiene, or keeping well and keeping active, all are important to your wellbeing, and we have every element of living a fulfilled life covered.

The benefits of Personal Care
Having support with personal care, whether it’s help with dressing, bathing, or assistance with meals and medication, can make a big difference to your quality of life. We understand that personal care can be sensitive to each individual. That’s why our professional CAREGivers are discreet and take time to build a close rapport with our clients to make sure it is a more individual and personal experience.

Different people have different needs and we adapt our personal care services to suit your specific requirements. Our CAREGivers are trained to provide care with dignity and respect.

Our care and support also take into account other things such as health conditions or the frailties associated with ageing and we can offer care at home services tailored for those living with life changing or long-term illnesses such as dementia, Parkinson’s and other conditions.

As with everything else we offer, our personal care services are tailored to you and your wishes.

Dementia affects more than 850,000 people in the UK and the figure is growing at an unprecedented rate. By 2051, over 2 million people will have been diagnosed with a type of dementia. These are not just statistics; they represent the millions of families with loved ones who require special care and support to live a fulfilled life with dementia.

You might be wondering how to respond to behaviours and situations caused by dementia or how to care for your loved one with dementia in a dignified way.

Through our years of providing home care to many elderly people with dementia, we have a lot of answers to these questions. We are here to help.

Establishing Dementia home care
With or without a diagnosis, people often need support and assistance to help them retain as much independence and live as fulfilled lives as possible. Early recognition and acknowledgement of support can help families establish care as part of the daily routine, helping those with memory loss to remain independent. We have developed a unique training programme for our CAREGivers which is accredited by City & Guilds and specialises in the home environment. Developed by leading experts in ageing and dementia from around the world, it helps our CAREGivers to provide the best quality care possible using different strategies to support the person living with dementia.

Caring for people with dementia at home
Our relationship-centred approach enables our CAREGivers to provide personalised care that:
- Helps your loved one remain safe at home
- Builds confidence and encourages engagement
- Can provide nutritious meals and mealtime activities to encourage healthy eating
- Creates opportunities for social interaction
- Provides stimulating activities
- Builds self-esteem and enhances physical strength
- Helps to understand different behaviours and needs
- Supports the family to help you take a break from some caring responsibilities.
You can rest assured that you will have the right team in place to look after your loved one with dementia.

The time may come when care visits are not enough and full-time care is needed. However, residential care is not the only option - live-in care can allow you to remain at home, with all the comforts and familiar routines that you are used to.

With Home Instead live-in care, our CAREGiver will live with you and be there to provide the support you need when you need it, without compromising your independence or changing your way of life.

Our live-in CAREGiver will be available to you to provide a familiar face and company, to help around the house and prepare your meals, to take you out, and to assist you as necessary with your personal care. As with our visiting care service, our live-in CAREGivers are fully trained, employed, managed and supported by Home Instead Basingstoke.

Our live-in care arrangement is flexible around your needs. You may just need someone to stay overnight; you may need short term live-in care for respite or to cover family holidays; you may need someone to live in for a few days each week, or you may need full-time long term live-in care. Please let us know what you have in mind so we can propose appropriate solutions.
