Someone you can chat to and discuss things with, at home or when out-and-about

According to Age UK, almost a million older people in the UK go for more than a month without speaking to anyone. We've found that many clients don't necessarily need a lot of help. But perhaps would sometimes like a companion to support them during various activities.

If there's room in your life for someone like that, Caremark can help. One of our Care Workers can visit you or accompany you and add a vital human element to your day. They will become a trusted, friendly face. We want to provide someone to share your interests with, while offering companionship.

Clients have found that getting together with a companion makes them feel revitalised and energised. Spending quality time with someone who understands them and is genuinely interested in them is very important.

Typical activities that Caremark clients enjoy with a companion include:

-Walking the dog
-Going to collect pension or visiting the bank
-Shopping for food, clothes or other items
-Going to leisure activities
-Enjoying a chat over a cup of tea
- Company while doing crafts or hobbies
- Going to a day service
- Visiting a community centre
- Using public transport
- Company and transport for doctor and hospital appointments.

It's good to have someone to ask...

As well as offering companionship it's nice to know that your care and support worker is willing and able to spend time helping you to master the difficulties of modern life, such as:

- Learning how to use a mobile phone, TV remote control or computer
- Paying bills and understanding financial documents
- Getting funding advice or help with claiming benefits

This is all about you

It's your choice how much and what kind of companionship support you have. As well as how often you want it. The above are only examples - feel free to ask us about your personal needs. We are able to cater to your individual preferences and aim to help everyone in unique ways.

Dementia Care and Alzheimer’s Care home support from Caremark allows our clients to stay in familiar surroundings.

What is dementia? According to the Alzheimer's Society, dementia is a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language.
There are currently 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, with 1-in-6 people over 80 having the condition. Some of the most common symptoms are:
- Day-to-day memory. Recalling recent events can be problematic.
- Limited problem solving. Our Care and Support Workers present decisions to clients in a way which is sympathetic to their condition. We will never overwhelm anyone with choices.
- Change in appetite. A common symptom of dementia is a change in tastes or loss of appetite. Our award-winning training system offers our Care & Support Workers courses on Food & Hydration.
- Communication & language. Finding the right words or understanding questions asked can be frustrating for those with dementia. This is why we offer training to Care & Support Workers on how best to communicate.

For people with dementia, orientation and day-to-day memory can be challenging. For this reason, having a routine is even more important than usual. At Caremark, we aim to permanently allocate our Care & Support Workers. A familiar, friendly face will walk through our clients' doors for every visit.

Dementia care at home from Caremark allows our clients to stay in familiar surroundings alongside their loved ones for as long as possible. This serves as the ideal alternative to residential care.

As the condition progresses, dementia can cause behavioural changes, restlessness and agitation. Repeating questions is another factor which can cause a strain on loved ones. Our visits can provide respite for those who need a break from caring. We allow people to relax, whilst they know their loved ones are being cared for.

Caremark's dementia commitment
Caremark is proud to have allocated over 2400 dementia courses to Care Workers over the last two years. Especially after shocking research by the Alzheimer's Society revealed that only 2% of people affected by dementia say home care workers have enough dementia training.

We are extremely committed to improving the lives of those with dementia. By providing personalised dementia home care across the country. Excellent quality care is not the only part of our commitment, we have been involved in a number of fundraising and awareness initiatives.

In 2015, a group of franchisees cycled from John O'Groats to Land's End. In fact Caremark raised a total of £50,000 for the Alzheimer's Society.

Regular, balanced meals are essential to maintain good health.
Unfortunately, some older people and those with physical or mental difficulties are not always good at (or capable of) looking after themselves in this way. That's where Caremark can help. We offer a personal service for food shopping and meal preparation.

It's so easy for certain people to overlook regular meals. Often finding food preparation a chore or too difficult, or simply forgetting to eat. Others know they need to eat regularly, but find it too much of a struggle to go to the trouble. So they end up eating all the wrong things, like cakes, biscuits, ready meals and other unhealthy choices. These are fine as a treat. But healthy, nutritious meals need care to plan and prepare.

We're happy to fit in with your needs. We can accompany you to the shops, and help you to do the shopping. Alternatively, we can agree a shopping list with you and do the shopping on your behalf. Then we can either prepare your meal, or assist you while you do the preparation. Afterwards, we can clear away and do the washing up for you, as desired.

Our Care Workers understand the importance of a good diet. Caremark will always ensure that clients are helped to eat meals that they not only enjoy, but that also help them to remain healthy.

Clients of Caremark can benefit from many different care services on offer. This can include those which do not involve personal care. Domestic care is a typical example of what we can provide. These options can be equally valuable in helping people to maintain their independence.

Even our clients who don't need much assistance with their personal care are usually delighted to learn that they can receive help with some of those tedious routine jobs, such as cleaning, laundry and ironing. These tasks can be very physically demanding. So it's good for clients to get relief from the pressure of these never-ending tasks.

Some of our clients simply cannot manage these activities. For older clients, it can be a great help to hand the jobs over to someone else. Delegating these tasks to Caremark means that you able to save your time and energy for more important things in life. Like spending time with your family and friends.
Tell us how we can help you...
We offer a whole range of domestic support services within your own home. This support is completely flexible to meet your own personal needs and preferences. So just ask if you want us to carry out tasks that aren't described below.

Here are some examples of typical routine domestic services that we provide to clients:

-Cleaning, vacuuming, dusting and polishing
-General tidying and other light household duties
-Washing up
-Laundry and ironing

Specialised tasks such as window cleaning would need to be undertaken by professionals.

Everyone benefits from meeting other people.

Meeting both new and familiar faces can have a positive effect on the contentment of someone being cared for at home on a long-term basis. For someone undergoing a short rehabilitation period, getting out and about and having visitors can help speed up the recovery process.

In the care plans we draw up with our clients, we always try to incorporate some elements of socialising, catered to each person.

Although everyone has unique needs, and physical abilities may differ greatly, we find that everyone benefits from occasional (and preferably regular) socialising. A social event can be something to look forward to, enjoy at the time and then look back on and reflect on.

If someone is wheelchair-bound, that's not a barrier to us. Even someone who is permanently bedridden should be able to receive visitors at home from time-to-time. This brings a little of the outside world into their life and can make a big difference.

What social activities do you enjoy?
We help our clients to enjoy a wide variety of social activities, including:

-Organising days out, such as meeting friends and family
-Regular weekly visits to the local pub, or a social club
-Visits to watch the action at the local cricket or bowls club
-Shopping trips
-Visits to the hairdresser or beauty therapist
-A trip to the library
-Meeting friends at a café
-A visit to the cinema or theatre

The possibilities are endless. So if you have a particular destination in mind, just let us know. We will cater to you and make the necessary arrangements for you.
