From the moment we arrived to the checkout each and every member of staff friendly and attentive. It was a very busy weekend with a big Christmas party in their function room but our service throughout the stay was excellent, we stayed for 2 nights 2 enjoyable breakfasts 1 evening meal and of course a few drinks, lovely open fires, great food, smiley faces and bright shirts(you know who you are!!) thank you very much.

Brilliant hotel, spectacular building in the throws of refurbishment, hence not excellent, but I’m sure it will be. We would have preferred a double bed instead of 2 mattresses joined together. There should be a separate a la crate menu with full prices on it to avoid confusion as when you add the cost of a main course to each item, it makes them a very expensive option. Also as a vegetarian if I was staying there for longer then the menu is very limited as the mains don’t appear to change. We stayed midweek on a Wowcher deal and was not sure what to expect, the Hall was impressive from the outside and the inside was also the same , our room was Ok not spotless but the bedding and towels were clean, it is what you expect for a Hall of that age, The food in the restaurant was perfect a very good well presented meal, the breakfast was also good , we would stay again . but may I suggest a bit more of a flexible time to check in, the receptionist was quite sharp in saying you cannot check in until 3 you may wait in the bar (with the others) at 5 to 3 people were still being ask to wait in the bar!. this was not a problem as we bought a drink , or was that the plan, !! many thanks again. We booked a two night stay with a three course evening meal and breakfast , this hotel is amazing the staff are very friendly and attentive, the hotel is beautiful and the beds are very comfortable ( best nights sleep in along time ). The food is melt in the mouth top restaurant cuisine. I would give this hotel a 5 star rating the best one I have stayed in . After a visit to Lyme Park we had decided to stay in the area for one night. This hotel is a lovely old building and everyone seemed friendly. Our room was pleasant and clean. Bathroom was a reasonable size. My only minor complaint is the shower curtain . It is very rare these days I have stayed in a hotel with a curtain instead of a screen. We had booked dinner and hopes were fading of a good experience when we were unable to find anyone to serve us a pre dinner drink in the bar. It was explained to us that a staff member had called in sick so they were short staffed. In the end the waitress in the restaurant served us but could only do so she said if we sat in the restaurant! The menu was not very inspiring and we thought we may be in for a longish wait. However a fellow guest seemed to step in and appeared with a note pad and took everyone's orders. I think that is a first for us. After that everything worked like clockwork and the food arrived quickly. I must say our misgivings were totally unfounded as the food was presented well and was actually exceptionally good. I recommend the Cumberland sausage with mash and caramelised onions. Delicious! We were equally pleased with breakfast the next morning. it was an all buffet breakfast but a good selection of fruit, yoghurt, pastries and cereals, plus selection of cooked items and make your own toast. On first night of a 2 night stay using Groupon deal. We'd actually thought we'd booked HollinS Hall near Bradford (don't ask) although apparently we're not the first to make that mistake. We were therefore quite apprehensive, especially after some of the mixed reviews on here. HOWEVER, so far it has been a delight. Amazing friendly and helpful staff from receptionist who warmly welcomed us, held open the door and offered to help with our bags; to the maverlous James in the restaurant and his colleague both of whom were warm, friendly, informative, good humoured and hyper efficient and professional. The food was simply sublime. Both my choice of starter, main and dessert(I'm vegan) and my partner's (who is not) were beautifully presented and incredible to taste. Certainly best vegan meal I've ever eaten. Chef also made me a vegan dessert (off menu) of sorbet, mouthwatering fresh melon, blueberries, pineapple and coulis with edible flowers! We are half way through our stay at Hollin Hall. First impressions are favourable as you follow the sweeping drive up to the impressive building. You enter through the central front door into main reception which is a little tired but very welcoming with a roaring fire. Access to all bedrooms is via an impressive staircase. Here things fall down a little. The hallways are rabbit warren like seemingly heading in all directions and in need of decoration and renovation. Things do improve as you enter the room. The bathroom is well appointed with a shower over the bath. The bed was a little hard but this was alleviated by the addition of a mattress topper, so if you prefer a softer bed then ask for this in advance. The bar,sitting area and restaurant have recently been upgraded and now offers comfortable, pleasant accomodation. The hotel's greatest asset is its staff who are pleasingly warm and attentive. The place was very pleasant.the surroundings and the food of this place are of a high quality. The place it self is visually stunning. The room was spacious. The bathroom was simply but a great power shower. It was clean and had an iron and hairdryer provided. Our room on the first floor did have an old smell about it but not over powering and not bad to put us off coming back. There was also a big tv in our room, bigger than the usual size you would find in a hotel. The only down side was the bed, although it was comfy it was two singles pushed together. Staff were friendly and a night out in Macclesfield is only. A taxi away. Be ware on this though as a taxi is double time. So a 10 minute journey is over £10. More...

We had read several very negative reviews, but decided to see for ourselves. The group on offer At £139 for 2 nights, including dinner with wine. Bargain. if you knock of £40 for the meal that is a mere £50 per night B and B. What do you expect does that price? The rooms were comfortable, with a good shower. The evening meal was excellent, but choice limited. I can understand that to reduce wastage. There are a couple of areas that could be improved e.g. a bit more attention to detail with the cleaning, especially high level. Four of us bought the Groupon Sunday lunch deal and it was really good! At first we were told Sunday lunch finished at 2.30 but they kindly allowed us to come at 3 .30.The waiter was lovely, really helpful when I struggled printing off the deal ( you need the bar code!)The food was gorgeous, all three courses! To read the reviews after booking, i was sceptical about our trip. We were welcomed by a really friendly hotel receptionist who made us feel number 1 from the start, she was very happy and smiley and nothing was too much trouble. We had upgraded to a superior room and requested the four poster room, how gorgeous this was! In hindsight, yes the hotel is in need of some tlc in parts and maybe re-modernising, but the hotel holds so much gorgeous history and the finish in the reception area and hotel/restaurant is lovely. The food was also lovely, set menu if on a wowcher deal but you can upgrade to steak for example for £8.50pp which it worth it because my steak was cooked to perfection! We stayed here for the night on a wowcher deal, it included bed, breakfast and a 3 course dinner. I read a few reviews before and was a little concerned for what it may be like but for the price I didn’t expect 5 star. Anyway we were very pleasantly surprised, I agree it is a bit worn in places but on leaving was told it was under new management and full refurbishments was been carried out. Room was clean and comfortable, the meal was lovely we paid a small supplement to eat off set menu. Service was great and everyone was friendly. Breakfast was a normal buffet breakfast with plenty of choice. If I had to pick on one thing it was the bar could have been better stocked. Overall it was a very good night away. More...

Our room was twin zipped together and I agree with the other review they are just not very comfortable, bedding was lovely and clean, we had a view of a brick wall but it didn’t bother us, I always take wipes and pleased I did because i felt the bathroom was a bit neglected, I do understand as it’s the end of the wedding season where some folk don’t care what they wreck, there was oil or something sprayed over the walls in room and bathroom it just seemed grubby however as I said the bedding was lovely and clean. Staff was lovely and the evening meal was scrummy, breakfast was basic but plenty to satisfy us, I loved the scrambled egg it was very light and fluffy, I went to a 5 star hotel a couple of months ago and their scrambled egg was fried so couldn’t eat it. I would definitely go again as the area is great, I did see 2 workmen in the corridor so hopefully they will attend to the problems it is a very old building and they are very difficult to maintain I imagine. We had booked 4 rooms here are we were attending a family wedding nearby. All of the rooms were different in some way but they were all clean and bathrooms were nice. One of the rooms was smaller than the rest and tv did not work but otherwise fine. Breakfast was amazing and a great choice available. We only had a soup and dessert on the night we arrived, as didnt want anything too big but this was not a problem and food was lovely, just what we needed after a long drive.Staff were very nice and friendly too.
