Hidden Retreats

At first Karen was really helpful in finding us hotel, flights, etc. With another bespoke travel agent offering us a deal, Karen was able to provide a similar price but with a few added benefits she said she would include (escape lounge @ Stansted & a sea view room). Closer to the time I also asked if it were possible to get a higher floor. With no mention of extra cost Karen said she’d look into it.

Upon arriving at the airport it came to light that Karen had never organised the escape lounge at Stansted and merely offered a reimbursement if we purchased it then. This had no benefit to us as this was something we could have done ourselves making it a redundant part of the deal.

When arriving at the hotel we found that Karen had not got us a sea view room either. So it seems all the promises made at the start were a lie to get thousands of pounds for a holiday in, quite frankly, an average hotel.

When I confronted Karen with this she just argued back which I find to be the worst way to approach a situation with a distressed customer!

As a ‘bespoke travel agent’ I would expect to be advised on the hotel properly (construction surrounded the hotel, facilities were average, etc.) and given a choice that would genuinely make a customer happy. Not a quick win to earn some commission.

I can safely say I will not be using Karen or Hidden Retreats ever again and given Thomas Cook’s recent demise I will be and would recommend others take a bit more time in creating their own package holiday. More...
