Here Be Dragons is headed by me, Peter McGlasham. I worked as a visual effects artist in the broadcast and motion picture industries for three decades before venturing into the freelance world and then forming my own creative endeavor.

So what’s with the name? It’s an exigent process naming your studio or your brand. After much thought, I decided on Here Be Dragons, that fanciful notation penned by cartographers of old to denote the unknown. The process of branding can be daunting. I’m all about distilling everything that makes my clients unique into a concise visual identity. I feed off the ideas of my clients and together we build something beautiful and truly one-of-a-kind.

First things first, you have the idea, next up: you need the presence. Cue my brand package. This is what you need to put your best foot forward come launch day and carry you through as your business blossoms. By learning your story together, we nail down the visual story we want to tell. While my branding package serves as a foundational base, many of my clients continue on with follow up services as well, including print and/or digital collateral, animation, motion graphics, and packaging. I offer all of that too, I am your one stop shop; designing with meaning for any screen and for any medium.

The Process:

GETTING STARTED: Projects typically start with a deep dive into your objectives for the project and your overall aesthetic. That usually means having a conversation or two and sharing mood boards or examples on social media between us. Once I get a sense of the brand image, we start defining your design language.

THE DESIGN PROCESS: I offer my clients 3-5 concepts with visuals accompanying the logos to help cultivate the overall look and feel of the brand. You will receive a presentation with concepts and proposed internal font system. Initial concepts take approximately 10 business days.

FINE TUNING: Three rounds of revisions are included in all of my design services to assure that every need is met; communication is key. I always tell my clients you can never hurt my feelings, I want you to LOVE it and I also want your logo to be extremely functional.

HANDOFF: Once the design is finalized you will receive all the necessary elements and files to help you carry out your brand on various platforms and an Identity manual with colour breakdowns to ensure that brand consistency is carried out successfully.

DELIVERABLES: Most basic packages include the following: Logo, Colour Palette, Font System, Identity Manual, Business Card & Letterhead. Packages are customizable and almost any requirement can be accommodated.

PAYMENT: 50% of the total price is due upon signing, with the remaining 50% due upon delivery. Any work that falls outside the scope of the project will be billed on an hourly basis. Weekend, holiday and rush work will incur an additional fee.
