Visited with a party from work for Christmas lunch. The restaurant was clean, tidy and nicely decorated. We had three food courses and coffee and mince pies as well for just over £20 each. Service was good but possibly a little slow as we were there for over two and a half hours in the end. Everyone enjoyed the food without complaining and the beef especially was excellent. Overall, much to recommend More...

Located in a rural village close to Grimsby,|We were staying one night prior to a family wedding, our room was located in the courtyard area. next to main hotel, extremely clean and comfortable, very comfortable bed,|Very friendly staff. We had dinner at the attached Pig and whistle bar/restaurant, and had probably the best freshest fish & chip dinner I have ever had, huge portion of haddock, we had had a long drive to get to hotel, and decided to Watch tv in our room & have a early night, around 10 pm, it unfortunately proved to be difficult due to the |Wedding that was being held in the barn venue, which was very close to the area where our room was located. The wedding we were there for was the following day. It was extremely noisy from the venue and from the guests who were staying in rooms close to our own, the noise died down around midnight, with some guests still being noisy even later, this was the only reason I have given 4 stars and not 5. I would stay again maybe midweek, or making sure we were in a different area of hotel,, More...

Being married to an ex-cookery teacher, I’m extremely cautious about visiting local eateries. Overwhelmingly, what’s on offer doesn’t match the homegrown, home cooked fare. But..it was our anniversary, so on the recommendation of a very picky but discerning friend, we thought we’d give the Pig and Whistle at Healing Manor a go.||First up, the location is terrific. Tranquil, with extensive lawns and gardens, pleasing on the eye.||The interior of the Pig and Whistle is thoughtful and imaginative, with stripped wood and eclectic furniture and art work. The cookery teacher informed me the wallpaper in the loos was amazing, both in male and female facilities. Don’t ask!||Michelle, our superb waitress / barmaid, delivered the best gammon steak I’ve ever had, with a piquant sauce, followed by chocolate brownie served with strawberries and raspberry mousse. ||The cookery teacher mumbled what I interpreted as unchained superlatives about her beer battered haddock Goujons and hand cut fries. Coming from the fishing town of Grimsby, that’s no mean recommendation.||Only down side? It’s going to be a long wait for our next anniversary. More...

After a little misunderstanding regarding the original booking, we were treated to a first class Sunday lunch and impeccable service in the Portman Restaurant. The main courses were delicious and plentiful (proper dinner portions). As we chose to undergo the starters to secure room for dessert, we were rewarded with attractive sweet delights to round off the meal. In addition, as it became known that we were celebrating 30+50+50+60 birthdays, that little bit extra arrived in the form of extra desserts including well wishes from the staff! We had three small children with us and they were treated very kindly being given crayons and drawings to colour in while waiting. All in all a very pleasant experience. Highly recommended! More...
