Child Counselling

We are so glad we found Lizz through this platform. she has been amazing with our son and over the coarse of a few sessions we have seen a marked improvement in him . He loves the sessions and especially the interaction with the horses. He was suffering with terrible anxiety and whilst I don't think this ever goes away, he has learnt coping mechanisms to deal with it. It was, and continues to be, exactly what we were after. Lizz has been a massive help with interaction with his school and we cannot praise her highly enough. More...

Working with Lizz really helped me to understand how I was feeling and ways in which I could control my thoughts and anxiety.
There was no pressure to do things in any set way and the approach was always about getting the most out of the support for me personally. Meetings were never rushed and Lizz really took the time to listen.
I would definitely recommend Lizz to anyone who is struggling.

Such a lovely change to be outdoors, having help with daily stress and worries, rather than one-to-one indoors. Lizz and Steph made our group feel at ease from the moment we got there. The atmosphere is so calming and relaxed. I never thought i would learn as much as I did throughout our two hour session! I am now able to practice 'me' time in daily life, without feeling guilty or worried about it. I will highly recommend Harness Coaching to adults, children, families and groups as what they offer is beneficial to all. Thank you for the wonderful 'refreshed' feeling I left with after my visit, one which I can always reflect on in times of anxiety or stress ❤ More...

I can highly recommend Harness Coaching.

I have attended 2 sessions of the adult wellbeing with horses workshop and thoroughly enjoyed them and learnt a lot already.

During the sessions i have attended we spent most of our time working on the ground with the horses in their field learning about the horses behaviour, listening to own own bodies and our own energy and eri g how this can affect the horses then learning how to manage our feelings. We also practise mindfulness to help calm any anxiety.

After working with the horses we come back to the yard to enjoy a cuppa, reflect on the session and share some experiences and coping strategies. It is great to talk to others and share things 😊

Lizz is very friendly, warm and welcoming and has already helped me learn new coping strategies.

I am also enjoying learning more about horse behaviour and love integrating with the herd.

They really are fantastic at what they do and can offer 121 or group coaching for adults and children whether you are a horsey person or non horsey person.

I got in contact with Lizz due to stress and anxiety I was suffering with as a result which I thought was due to my relationship. The first meeting I bet Lizz thought what on Earth has she walked into with both me and my partner bickering.
She very quickly realised that we should have separate coaching to stop the ping pong affect.
I d been working with Lizz now for a few months on my self esteem, condfidence and general thought process.
I’ve realised that the initial problem I went to her for was not the deep rooted cause of my problems it was actually something that was very traumatic to me that happened over ten years ago and I didn’t realise that it was making me feel angry against the world and as a consequence making me have unhelpful thoughts against myself, sort of a self sabotage in a way.
I have learned to find inner peace now by using simple techniques that Lizz had taught me and to retrain my brain and it’s negative thought pattern.
It’s still work in progress but with Lizz’s continual support both with one to one and email I know I have the support in her at any time if I need it.
She is empathetic, caring and above all unsderstands me better than I actually do myself. I’ll soon change that though as I’m learning to find me again and I’ve never really understood what that actual phrase has meant before neither “living in the moment”.
It’s work that needs to be done by yourself of course alongside Lizz’s support but if listened to and understood properly then I can fully recommend Lizz as your potential life coach.
She is very approachable and actually does care in what she does for a living, she has the patience of a saint and all I can say is a huge thank you Lizz for all of your help and ongoing support.
It’s my partners birthday this week and I’m actually planning and getting excited in treating her, so there is proof in the pudding if ever I’ve seen it.
Don’t ever be afraid to ask for help, we all need a little from time to time and I can say hand on heart I don’t really know where I would be today without my support network and Lizz’s coaching skills. Don’t suffer in silence, please give Lizz a try, what have you got to lose?
Best wishes my friends.

'I arranged to see Lizz after seeing a Facebook post by a mutual friend. At the time, I had been trying, with varying degrees of success and failure, to deal with an ongoing problem with stress and anxiety. Having tried ‘traditional’ counselling and medication without much sustained improvement, I was keen to try a different approach. I will confess to not really knowing what the sessions were going to be like, and whether they would make any difference, however, I really did have nothing to lose, so I decided to give it my best shot!

On the day of the first session I was really quite anxious – I liked horses, in the way that every girl who grew up in the late 70’s wanted to ride Black Beauty – but I had practically no experience of horses, save for an occasional donkey ride at Blackpool as a youngster!! So, to try and deal with my anxiety, I was going to meet someone completely new, in a place I’d never been to, to work with animals I had no experience of – sounds great doesn’t it!! Straight away Lizz put me at ease – she explained the process and a bit about her own background, as we simply walked around the edge of fields with horses in – nothing too scary to begin with. Lizz talked me through a kind of ‘mindfullness’ technique, steadying my breathing, becoming aware of my body, my surroundings - all of which I could feel start to make me feel calmer. I have since learnt to use this technique (albeit sometimes in shortened form) to help me deal with stressful situations, or when I can feel that I might start to feel overwhelmed. It helps give me breathing space, a pause, before just reacting to whatever is happening - this has been very valuable in helping me to control the effects of anxiety. Now, there is an interesting thought... in the past I have tried to deal with the problem by removing the anxiety - which is almost always not possible. Instead, with Lizz's help, I have learnt that anxiety itself is not the problem, it is the way in which we (I) react to it which is problematic. Anxiety is a manifestation of a number of symptoms, physical reactions and responses in the body, designed to help us run away from sabre toothed tigers, or whatever else might be chasing us looking for its dinner. What I now understand is that for various reasons, our bodies now react to all sorts of situations in this way - leaving us in an almost permanent state of readiness to flee...no wonder sometimes things get on top of us.

In my own case, for many years, personal circumstances meant I lived in this constant hyper-anxious state - always waiting for the next thing to go wrong, the next problem I was going to have to solve. By talking about some of the horses, the way they react, the effects of living in this hyper-anxious state really became clear to me. What also became clear was that umpteen years of living like this was not going to be undone in a couple of hours in a field with a horse - this was going to take time. Through working with Lizz and the horses I have gained a much deeper understanding of how mind and body work together ( and sometimes against each other) and how the physical can affect the emotional and vice versa.

I am not 'cured' of anxiety - I still get anxious, the difference is that most of the time now I can moderate the physical effects, and buy my brain the breathing space it needs to find a sensible solution to whatever is causing the stress. It's not perfect, I am still learning, but I do feel much calmer, and less controlled by the anxiety

Working with Lizz has proved to be very useful in helping me think through changes I face at work and home, and I have really benefited from her support. Her insight has provided that alternative perspective to help me approach and manage the process of change. Sessions with Lizz have enabled me to voice my fears and doubts and realise that sometimes we can be our own worst enemy and almost pre-empt scenarios that we don’t want by giving them attention. I have worked on time management issues, (lack of) confidence in the workplace, and getting conflicts around pressure in my job and challenges at home into a better balance. Lizz is very understanding and easy to talk to but also not afraid to question or challenge my ideas when required. This is a good thing as it provokes me to think more deeply about my reactions and not fall into old patterns of behaviour which do not necessarily serve me best. More...

Q&As

I love working with people who want to make a positive change in their life rather than put up with the same old negative habits and fears that hold them back. I wonderful to support people to reach for their dreams and succeed with something they want to improve. The coaching sessions are about giving people time to think so they can start to understand their problems more clearly, often for the first time and sharing this with them is very precious to me. Stress is a fact of life we can't remove, anxiety and depression are not, but often we feel they are an inevitable outcome of being under stress. If we can learn better ways to manage stress we can build our resilience to cope with lifes ups and downs.

I wanted to help people before they fall ill with stress or give up on a dream to change their life because it seems to difficult. I had worked with horse industry for many years as my first career. When i started on my journey to change career to become a psychologist in 2003 i began to work with companies where often the environment and the way they treated staff was very toxic and stressful. This is still a reality in many workplaces and peoples lives and i wanted to be able to offer more one to one support for people struggling to cope and try to help them before they end up leaving their jobs with the ill health that is a symptom of long term stress.

I bring together the science and put it into practise to help my clients develop a plan of action to work through as we move things in a more positive direction. As a Chartered Coaching Psychologist i have to stay abreast of the latest research findings and work within ethical guidelines. I use this knowledge in a practical way that helps people develop clearer thinking about their issues and a realistic plan to make the changes they want to make. I have helped many clients move their life on to a more productive, yet less stressful track and i am confident how ever you feel right now you will feel much better when you start to take control and change the issues you are not happy with. I offer a free introductory session to all new clients to see if we want to work together so nothing to lose in making contact.

Services

We are now working in parternship with Dr Zoe Cross to offer assessment for ASD, Dyslexia, ADHD and many more. We run a 6 session prgramme for families who want to understand the diagnosis better and how best to support the child and any siblings. If this is some thing you or your child needs ask for more information.

This is a 2 hr or half day session for anyone who is struggling with stress for any reason and who wants to understand the physical and mental symptoms they are feeling and how best to manage and reduce their toxic effects.
We run these as small groups which might be frends and families or work colleagues who want to support each other and not end up off work.

We offer CBT sessions that can be sitting down face to face talk but we find that most often people feel more comfortable when moving around ! SO we do Walk & Talk sessions and/or in the Herd with our horses.
If you have tried conventional talking therapy and not found it was that helpful or too intimidating then try these session that are more active, strol in the park or a yomp across a field what ever you need it to be!!.
