Swedish massage uses five styles of strokes. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (cross fiber or with the fibers) and vibration/shaking. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee over a period of eight weeks.

Once attuned by a Reiki Master, Reiki is like a form of first aid in your hands that will never leave you. Energy will flow through your hands whenever you touch with intent. Following a series of attunements,

Reiki 2 opens additional energy centers and connects you to a greater volume of Reiki Energy. During the course, you are given three sacred symbols, each having a specific function. These symbols can then be used as a focus to enable you to strengthen mental and emotional healing and to send absentee healing. A large part of the training received in Second Degree is centred on the understanding and use of these symbols. In Reiki 2 training you receive two attunements. At this stage of the training, the energy attunement is greatly amplified and its focus is on the etheric body rather than the physical. As a result of these attunements, you may develop both a greater sensitivity to energy and a psychic awareness.

During a Reiki Master course, the student receives the Master attunements, which further deepen and strengthen the Reiki energy. The vibration of the student is raised once again to a much higher level and is felt very strongly within the student and also to those they treat. The Reiki Master symbol is also passed on to the student at this level, which ultimately enables them to attune others to the Reiki energy, if they wish to become a teacher. Being attuned to Reiki is for life, it stays with you whether you choose to use it or not. Reiki attunements are always an amazing spiritual experience and are as pleasurable for the Reiki Master giving them as they are for the student who is receiving them.
