About

I am a painter and printmaker specialising in oil painting and lithographic and intaglio printmaking. I paint and make prints to commission, taking work which ranges from conventional portraits to something more unusual such as making an image to celebrate a wedding or painting a spirit animal.

Q&As

I like this work because I love to paint and to make other people happy with a painting. People surprise me with unexpected ideas and I love the challenge of making a picture sing which is a strange juxtaposition of my dream and theirs. My best reward is when the client really loves the painting.

All my life I really only ever wanted to make paintings, so it seemed to me a good idea to start my own business as a painter. I paint for my supper full time now and am happier for it!

If you want something a little unusual and of good quality... maybe something which tells a story about you- I am ready to listen and paint.....

I prefer to work from life- but I am very open to new approaches and if it seems right for the commission in question I would not dismiss it.

One customer had to isolate because of Covid-19, so we resumed sittings when he was was ready. All sittings are done with absolute respect to your needs. I mask up, and sittings are done respecting social distancing and with good ventilation. I always make sure that you are comfortable with any sitting arrangement that we decide on.

Services

Commissioning a portrait is a special way to celebrate a particular time, memory, person or stage in life and is something that will last many lifetimes. For portraits people often find sitting a uniquely enjoyable experience which takes them out of their every-day routine. I am always interested in the sense of the presence of the person and what can arise in the interaction with the sitter.

The reasons to commission a painting are varied. A commissioned painting can make a very personal and special gift, can commemorate an important event or simply a mark a point in one's own life. I work with you to create a painting that will be meaningful to you.

I sometimes take students and help them develop drawing and painting skills. These usually take place in my studio.
