Services

We understand the ever-present risk of fire in domestic and commercial buildings, and the importance of complying with fire safety legislation, protecting your business premises and your employees from the prospect of fire is essential.

Under the terms of The Regularity Reform (Fire Safety Order 2005), it is the duty of every employer to carry out a fire risk assessment of the workplace. Not only that, but it’s also the law for businesses in the United Kingdom! Ensuring your premises is fitted with the right commercial fire alarm system and adequate fire detection is one step towards mitigating the risk of fire.
Employers must provide and maintain the precautions against fire that are necessary to safeguard those who use their workplace. Nominate people to undertake specific roles as required by the emergency plan, consult their employees where people may be given specific roles and proposals for improving fire safety. They must inform other employers who have workplaces in the same building, of any significant risks they find, which might affect their employees and co-operate with them as necessary. Most workplaces are covered by the fire regulations. This puts responsibility on employers to make sure, that you and others are safe in the workplace.

Norfolk based Fire Security Engineering offers domestic and commercial intruder alarm systems with remote monitoring.

Whilst there’s only two main types of intruder alarm available (wired or wireless), the differences come in the types of detection available, the grading of your intruder system and whether your system in monitored. The level of protection you need will determine the types of detection most suitable. We have many years experience in specifying security systems for domestic and business premises.

Our intruder alarm systems are graded between 1 and 4. This grading represents the level of protection required and is determined through a risk assessment on the content of your building, and your building’s fabric and structure. The grade you require is usually specified by your insurance company, or our security consultants can advise on what level is suited to your site.

Grade 1 – Low Risk - Intruders are expected to have little knowledge of the alarm system and may be restricted to a limited range of easily available tools.

Grade 2 – Low to Medium Risk - Intruders are expected to have a little more knowledge of the alarm system and use a general range of tools and some specialist equipment.

Grade 3 – Medium Risk - Intruders are expected to be conversant with the intruder alarm system and have a comprehensive range of tools and portable electronic equipment.

Grade 4 – High Risk - To be used when security takes precedence over all other factors. Intruders are expected to have the resources to plan an intrusion in detail and have a full range of equipment, including the means to substitute vial components in the business alarm system.
Most commercial premises will require a grade 2 or 3 system. Grade 4 commercial alarm systems are usually only specified for high value, high risk environments such as art galleries, jewellers and banks.

Fire Security Engineering specialise in designing and installing access control systems to suit your domestic and business premises across Norfolk and Suffolk.

What Types of Access Control Are Available?
There are two main types of access control, standalone or PC based.

Standalone Access Control For Doors
A standalone system is more suitable for smaller sites, where there are only a few users and the management of access tokens is simple. This type of system can be used to control access to just one or several doors within your building. Access is gained by using a PIN on a keypad, entering a numeric code or presenting a proximity tag to a reader. Each door is programmed independently, and if a token needs revoking from the system or a code needs altering, this has to be completed at every door.

Networked Access Control
A networked access control system allows the programming of individual users and doors from PC based software. This means that commands set via the software are sent to each of the doors on the system. A token can be barred from all doors instantly, creating a more secure solution, and different permissions are able to be granted to different groups of users or individual users.

A networked system also allows reports to be generated to see which user went where and when. This type of system can also be integrated with other existing systems to control intruder alarms, fire doors, lifts and lighting.

Fire Security Engineering supplies and installs all types of fire extinguishers. We will ensure your business premises are both protected from the risk of fire and legally compliant with current legislation. All our commercial fire extinguishers are made in the UK by Jactone  constructed to BS EN 3 and carry the CE mark. We also guarantee them for 12 months. You can extend this to 5 years subject to a service plan.

BS 5306 states that the following minimum quantities of fire extinguishers should be provided:

At least 1 x 13A rated extinguisher per 200 square metres of floor area

Not less than 2 x 13A rated extinguishers per floor

Distributed so that nobody travels more than 30 metres to reach an extinguisher

So that special fire hazards such as electrical equipment, flammable liquids and flammable gases are provided with additional suitable fire extinguishers
