About

At DRT Coaching, we believe that every runner should incorporate Strength and Conditioning to compliment their running. This not only helps athletes reduce the risk of injury that sidelines them from the sport they love, but also has a direct correlation with improvements in speed, strength, and running economy.

I reached out to DRT Coaching to help me progress my 5km time ahead of a race I was targeting in the Spring.

Dom was great to work with. From the initial assessments, to monthly plans and ongoing support, he helped me improve from a 22 minute 5km to 19:30, something I thought I'd never be able to do!

Initially I was apprehensive about the strength and Conditioning side of things, s i just wanted to run, but Dom was patient and took time to explain each exercise to me. He also had really handy YouTube tutorials for each exercise!

I'd recommend DRT Coaching to anyone looking to improve their running.

Q&As

Seeing people achieve their running goals.

As a goal-orientated, competitive athlete myself, having won medals at national championships, I love racing. Coaching athletes is incredibly fun and rewarding, however my biggest buzz comes from my athletes crushing their races and hitting a new personal best. There is no greater feeling than knowing their hard work over the previous weeks and months has paid off.

Initially, I undertook the Leader in Running Fitness and Coach in Running Fitness courses to understand my own running and training better. However, very quickly I became interested in helping other athletes achieve their goals.
I realised that a lot of running coaches nowadays will have 30+ athletes on their roster, and continually churn out generic, expensive plans which aren't tailored to the athlete.
At DRT Coaching, I aim to provide a more all round, 'boutique' service, focussing my attention on a small number of clients who's interests are aligned with my own (Capable athletes looking to improve their personal bests over road racing distances from 5km to Marathons).
Through coaching like-minded athletes, providing a holistic service (running and strength and conditioning), and regularly talking to my athletes to assess their progress, I cater for a gap in the market which other coaches are currently neglecting.

DRT Coaching is unlike most other coaching setups. Most coaches have vast amounts of athletes and either provide generic plans or spread themselves so thinly they're unable to provide the athlete the attention they require to improve and achieve their goals. At DRT Coaching, I work with a small number of carefully selected athletes who generally fall into the below criteria:
- Aged 18-40
- Predominantly race on the road between 5km-Marathon
- Want to be competitive within their chosen discipline, or have a desire to improve their personal bests
- Athletes in search of new challenges by moving up or down in distance
- Appreciate the benefits of strength and conditioning to their running performance

I carefully selected these criteria as they reflect my own interests within running, and therefore enable me to provide the best service for athletes choosing to work with me.

My running and strength and conditioning package includes:
- Free initial call about your goals, needs, training history and previous injuries. This helps establish whether we are a good fit for one another

- In-person strength and conditioning movement screening

- Training Peaks premium subscription

As you may have read above, part of my coaching service is in person. This involves the initial running technique assessment, and strength and conditioning movement screening.

I believe this to be essential to helping an athlete improve, as without physically seeing athletes the coach is unable to know if the athlete requires technique correction. If left un-diagnosed, poor technique in both running and strength and conditioning can lead to injury.

Coaches who do not meet their athletes to assess them are letting their clients down, as the athletes aren't benefitting as they should from their coach and may be unaware to any corrections required in their technique.

The movement screening and running assessment take place in-person in the 'DRT Performance Lab', based in Welling, London. During this, windows can be opened to allow for ventilation, and masks can be worn at the discretion of the athlete.
Furthermore, surfaces and equipment in the Performance Lab will be wiped before and after use with anti-bacterial / anti-microbial cleaners.

Services

At DRT Coaching, I believe all runners should incorporate Strength and Conditioning training into their running routine. To not do so is to open yourself up to injury, and limit your speed and strength potential.

I have therefore qualified as both a United Kingdom Athletics running coach, and Strength and Conditioning coach, so that I can provide my clients with everything they need to reach their goals.

The process begins with a free initial call to discuss your current training, injury history, and goals. This also serves to see whether we think we would be a good fit for each other before making a firm commitment.

We then agree a time to meet face to face. This lasts around an hour, and is split into two sections:
1. An assessment of your running technique. Everyones technique is different, however this helps me understand your strengths and limitations which I can then seek to improve through the introduction of specific running drills.
2. A movement screen assessment. This involves me coaching you through various strength and conditioning movement patterns to understand your strengths and weaknesses, and forms the basis of the Strength and Conditioning plan I set for you.

After this, I will provide you with a monthly training plan which incorporates both running and strength and conditioning.
We will have two catch ups a month, which last as long as you need (typically between 30 minutes to 1 hour). These are typically a day or two after I send you the new plan, and then one mid-month to assess progress.
You will also benefit from 24/7 WhatsApp support.

The full package can be seen here:
- Free initial call about your goals, needs, training history and previous injuries. This helps establish whether we are a good fit for one another
- In-person assessment of your running style and technique
- In-person strength and conditioning movement screening

- Monthly running and Strength and Conditioning plans delivered to you via TrainingPeaks
